BSP; you bring up a very important point, although I have to show you something about that. In this very chapter is described quite differently than what you say: "Let the priests the ministers of the LORD weep..saying, Spare thy people O LORD.." It is part of our duty as Christ's disciples to walk in His steps of feeling compassion and hurt WITH those suffering, to stand up for them before God.

Joel ch. 2 is prophecy for the whole world, Jew and Gentile, vs. 28-32, "...that whosoever shall call on the NAME ... and in the remnant" (gentiles). Acts 2:16-21,v22 - "... that whosoever shall call on the NAME ..., v. 22 "... JESUS... "; vs. 37-38, " men and brethren, WHAT SHALL WE DO?" "Then Peter said ... repent and be baptized in the NAME of Jesus ....."

Although directed towards the inhabitants of Israel, warning of an almost invincible northern enemy, we should realize that the text has a timeless universal appeal. Personal and national abandonment of divine laws always attract severe judgement. God's preference is life and the blessings that enhance it instead of mere existence and death.
