Jeremiah Chapter 23 Discussion

Jeremiah 23:5-6 is such an encouragement when we would despair because of all that is broken and hurting in our nation and world. The righteous Branch, from the lineage of David, the coming King who will reign and prosper, foresees Christ's second return. He will execute judgment and justice (just in Israel?) no..."in the earth," the whole earth. The whole creation groans and travails together in pain until now ( Romans 8:22) and only Christ's return will relieve it. My challenge is not to be overburdened by worry and fear for what is happening, but to endure and wait patiently for Him. He will be called THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS, for we have no righteousness of ourselves.

    Hello James,

I would just like to share what I have learned about Mark 10:17-18. The word good in Verses 17 and 18 is a special word. It is the word AGATHOS. There is another Greek word for the word good, and that word is KALOS. All throughout the bible, the word good is used. But if we just see it in English, we tend to attach one meaning to that word because we don't realize that there are different Greek words for our English word good, and that they have different meanings. You see, we only come away with one meaning for the word good in our English bibles.

But when I go to the original text, the word AGATHOS is used in both Verses 17 and 18. Jesus is going to say why did you all me AGATHOS? There is only one who is AGATHOS and that is God. Why did you call me AGATHOS? Do you realize what you just called me? You called me God. Why did you do that?

He is bringing it to this rich man's attention.

For the longest time I didn't understand these verses. I thought I was a good person, and I knew several good people. And then I read this and it was sort of like letting air out of the tire. I also wondered how others would look at themselves as not being good at all, and how it would make them feel about themselves. But then I learned what was really taking place in these two verses and it made perfect sense. There are good people (KALOS). But no one is good (AGATHOS) but God.

That is what I've come to learn. This man was referring to Jesus as God, because only God is good (AGATHOS). And Jesus was quick to point out to the rich man that he called him the good that can only be applied to God, which would make Jesus equal to God. But did you notice that Jesus never denied it?

In Luke 6:45, Jesus said a "A good man out of the good treasure of his heart bringeth forth that which is good;" This tells me that a person can be good, and there are good people, but never AGATHOS! Anyways, I just wanted to share this with you.

Hi Mishael as far as why bad things happen to good people:There are no good people. There are people who do good things. In Mark10:17&18,when the man came running to Him,knelt before Him and asked Him,GOOD TEACHER what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life? JESUS said to him Why do you call me good?NO one is good but One,that is GOD.So you see in order to be good you have to be good twenty four hours a day. See we can,t do that, only GOD can do that. But let,s try.

False prophets have been telling lies sense the beginning. What has happen at Samaria, with the idolatry happen everywhere the word was preach. Man are tempted by too many temptations. That why God give us the ten commandments, that we must obey. If God would have punished man for every little thing,on one would be here today. Thank you father for your mercy and grace, you kept given us chance after chance. Now the coronavirus, what a wake up call.if we all shall repent and pray and turn back from our wicked ways the Lord will heal the land. Comment for Jeremiah 23 chapter.

Jeremiah 23 is part of the ominous warning God has given to believers. The very beginning of the chapter is setting up the prophecy of the Christian church in the last days before Jesus' returns in judgment. The history of the Hebrew nation is a mirror of the things that have come to pass in these latter days. Judgment must first come on the church...and it has already begun. May God have mercy

    V. 14 - God just didn't like Sodom/Gomorrah; I guess He did (maybe) at one time, OR, His word does say he is of great mercy and slow to anger. People say there was no 'grace' with God in the O.T.; I think there was ................

I love in Allentown P.A. I notice some of our fellow churches don,t talk about the Holy Spirit much. they tell the bible like its a story. The bible is about u do Gods will, following God,s word with our whole hearts. Explain to the people that we are being judged by God in a spirit, and in truth. God is a spirit that we can feel when we truly sleek his anointing.
  • Peter A. Okebukola on Jeremiah 23 - 7 years ago
Verse 1 is particularly instructive since it reminds us of the emergence of false prophets which the Bible warns will be hallmark of the last days. "Woe be unto the pastors that destroy and scatter the sheep of my pasture! saith the LORD.". While the warning is directed at pastors, it applies to all who preach false doctrines that cause souls to stray from the path of righteousness.

And Jesus went out, and departed from the temple: And as he went out of the temple, one of his disciples saith unto him, Master, see what manner of stones and what buildings are here! And Jesus said unto them, Seest thou these great buildings? For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ and shall deceive many.

This Branch is Lord Jesus Christ, in His second coming to rule in the millenium. But Satan is also planning a counterfeit to fool people in the New World Order, to be ruled by some smart, crazy guy, bearing the name of our Saviour.
  • LOURDES on Jeremiah 23 - 9 years ago
Pastors have to study the word of God faithfully and pray for the counsel of the Holy Spirit of God to reveal what God is actually saying in His Word. If those Pastors cater to the immature or the unconverted members of their local churches because they do not want to lose majority of their members for financial reasons and only say what they want to hear with their itching ears, the judgment of God will fall upon them.

sincerely whats happening now is not new to God so he that has a dream to tell let him tell but he that has God s Word should speak it with boldness there is no relationship between chaff and the wheat God s Word is like hammer it breaks every falsehood and false prophets

Supposedly to be "prophets" (pastors) of our time who were later discovered to be persisting in adultery -- is nothing new from old time.
  • Magenta on Jeremiah 23:1 - 10 years ago
This is a very powerful quote from the Bible. Many of these Pastors we have today are destroying the souls God created to be saved. I feel some Pastors are too loose and don't have this strong fear for God. That's just sad...

This scripture reminds me of several in the Bible; but one comes to mind in ( II Corinthians 11"13-15) That's why I'm trying to as much as possible study this word and pray that God will give me understanding of what He has declared. Oh God help us all!!!

From experience in my kingdom race God must fulfill every word of his that has been spoken genuinely on his behalf, for he is a faithful God and he guides his words jealously. He cannot fail.

He wants us to call his name alone, YAHUAH! L-rd means Baal. All through the bible, CALL ON MY "NAME". There is only one name to be saved by! YAH-our salvation YAHUSHUA; HALA-YUAH.

  • John Juai on Jeremiah 23:1 - 11 years ago
Religious division is a sin. It is an open rebellion against God`s call and against the prayer Christ Jesus for unity.(Jn.17:20-23) It is a curse rather than a blessing. Christ Jesus prayed against this very thing. Apostle Paul condemned it. (1 Cor.1:10-13)God hates those who sow discord.(Prov.6:19).Denominationalism is a sin and the tragic result is the destruction or loss of many precious souls. No one can truly respect and obey Christ`s prayer for unity and at the same time be in favor of Denominationalism . Thus some religious people who call themselves christians are engaged in what in God`s sight as abominable as witchcraft and idolatry. (1 Sam.15:23)

Prophet that has a dream let him speaks his dream and not lie to the people in the name of the Lord. His dreams are not God's word, And the prophet that has the word of God ,should speak the word of God faithfully and not add his own word.Because God cannot be mock.

Who are the prophets in the LATTER DAYS (consider this same chapter verse 20)? Jeremiah was in the city before it became Babylon (taken by the Babylonians or Chaldeans). The prophets of Jerusalem were deceiving the people into rejecting Jeremiahs (the LORDS servant) warning concerning the destruction of the city. Also ask yourself how many people WHILE Jeremiah was warning them thought that he actually was the LORDS servant? The BIG SHOTS among the people thought Jeremiah was a traitor to his country ( JER 26: 8; 37: 12, 13). Who are the true prophets in the LATTER DAYS ( REV 11: 3)? Who gets to decide the doctrine (PRESENT TRUTH -- 2 Peter 1: 12; 1 Peter 1: 13) they preach to the people of (MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH) the land so the BIG SHOTS can call them false prophets?

    Considering this same subject also note similar verses ( EZE 34; JER 5: 5, 12; 25: 34-37; MIC 3: 1-5).

In closing consider the words of Jesus ( John 9: 39-41) who everybody claims to believe in but understand nothing about the Messiah (who comes again) and the Judgment of the LORD:

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind. And [some] of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also? Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.
