Because God rejected Jeconiah, his name was shortened to Coniah as Je signified a connection to Jehovah God. (This came from a Bible commentary). God is a God of mercy and grace; but if we continually reject Him, He will eventually reject us.

(3-5) What was so terribly, terribly significant about the desolation of the house of David and Jerusalem; is that since they refused to be children of love and holiness and obedience, God was at length forced to rend the kingdom away from them, and put the Elect Nation under subjection to the heathen, as they ever sought to be! For this reason are we also under subjection till Jesus returns.

Jer 22:26,27 It touches my soul, in our earthly journey, knowing people leave their birthplace for another country where a great possibility we may not be able to return. But thank and glory to God for His people has a greater place prepared by Jesus where He can receive and bring us home and rejoice forever with Him.

The "Times of the Gentiles" happened because the house of Israel has never been truly converted, nor had "such a heart in them" worthy of the LORD their God. The throne of David was taken away "until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled;" and at the coming of Christ shall be restored, both over Israel and the nations. Why don't Americans and Europeans see their own sin and judgment in the Word?
