It is more than just the tree. The following verses continue to inform us that the decorated tree is a false idol, and not to be worshipped, or commonly stated admired. Further more, other verses warns to be weary of all Manmade holidays.
  • Joseph Labonte on Jeremiah 10 - 9 years ago
It 's about the tree and the custom 's and tradition 's of men. It 's clear as crystal, and yet so many defend their beloved FESTIVITIES. The text is so.... CLEAR. Learn not the way of the HEATHEN.
  • Michael Parkes on Jeremiah 10:17 - 9 years ago
I just awoke from a dream of my girlfriend 's son, of whom I am the acting father, was being physically transformed and toyed with as well as spoken through, by demonic forces. I was very distressed in the dream, crying and asking for help from the Lord. My parents, who are in reality a great woman and man of God, laughed at me and told me I was being dramatic, then dropped their heads in what seemed to be sincere prayer to God. I awoke very distraught. I moved about unsure of what to do, going to his crib and praying, getting on my face, standing back up, moving about. I finally went to read my bible. I opened it up to a random Jeremiah 10 10 and began to read. When I made my way to verse 17 it seemed clear to me that God was telling me to take what I have Wares as a man of God and live no more in sin and leave this way that has opened me up to attack under siege . I am at the moment living in a way that does not please God and that opened me up to being attacked by such dreams, so I believe. In other words, God used Jeremiah 10 10 18 to make me choose to move towards Him instead of dangerously "straddling the fence " and living in temptation.
  • Abel Subramony on Jeremiah 10 - 9 years ago
We must not fear any foreign gods because there is no life or movement in them. These gods was made from resources that was created by the creator who is our heavenly FATHER.So this is telling us that we must worship the CREATOR and not the creation. We also see that the end time pastors are not true pastors that 's appointed by GOD.They are self appointed and their goal is to rob the churches but GOD tells us that they will be repaid. In John chapter 10 it tells us that a true shepherd will always look after and protect the flock. We must also not trust in the ways of man because he will always fail you but you must trust in the ways of the living GOD who will never fail you.The bible tells us that he is the same yesterday, today and forever.GOD bless
  • Peggy on Jeremiah 10 - 9 years ago
We now have soooo may gods that we worship.Vehicles, houses, food ,education power, popularity.technology, entertainment, friends, our bodies and the list goes on. We worship whatever is on the throne of our hearts.Lord help the so called christian world.
  • Holly Sue Allen on Jeremiah 10 - 9 years ago
I believe that it is just using the tree as an example of something they liked to worship like people who worship "mother earth ", it doesn 't speak, it 's like worshipping any image that doesn 't speak..God spoke to the people from a fire and from the fog..
  • John on Jeremiah 10 - 9 years ago
Jeremiah 10 is most definitely talking about a christmass tree. People do fall down at the tree and worship their gods under it. The word of God tells us that covetousness IS IDOLATRY. Selah. Let that sink in awhile.
  • SANDY on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
In context Jeremiah is clearly not describing Christmas trees he is talking about idolatrous graven and molten images of the heathen the worthless futile powerless statues of their pagan gods that are not to be feared Decked in gold and silver and clothed in purple etc They have to be carried they cannot move they cannot speak they should not be feared they should not be worshiped they cannot speak life and death is in the power of the tongue so this makes them neither good or evil just plain dumb
  • Kim(rev.12....) on Jeremiah 10:2 - 10 years ago
    YES! I AGREE...
  • Jerald Semar on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
People who put up Christmas trees do not fall down to worship it. The ornamented tree is simply a symbol of festivity, a decoration and, the tree is a symbol of a nation or, a kingdom. It should in this case represent the Kingdom of God's people. I don't know of any Christian who falls down to worship the decorated tree. People don't fall down to worship floats in parades, they don't fall down to worship penyata's and, they don't fall down to worship Christmas tree's. The Lord is talking about people who worship idols carved out of the stock or, trunk of a tree and covered with plates of gold and silver fastened by nails and clad with clothing. The Lord is talking about idol worship, period! Not festivity decorations. Please don't confuse the two. The Holy Spirit has never convicted me for celebrating the birth of Christ with festive decorations and, the giving of gifts to my loved one's and friends. If the custom offends you and you wish to visit me during the Holiday Season I promise to remove the tree for your sake. I will not offend a Christian Brother or, any man for the sake of a custom. I hope this opens the eye's of your understanding.
  • Shanna on Jeremiah 10:23 - 10 years ago
The Bible states that humans have neither the ability nor the right to govern themselves. Jehovah did not create us with the ability to do that for ourselves, especially not in our imperfect condition. However, If we are humble and willing to depend on Jehovah God, He will impart to us his holy spirit as a sure guide for our steps.
  • Danny on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
Learn not the way of the heathen for the customs of the people are vain. This custom and all other customs associated with Christmas are vain and are the way of the heathen. The birthday of Jesus was never commanded by Jesus himself nor the apostles to be celebrated. Rather the Christ child was born sometime in the fall just before the rains came. The traditions of men are not the traditions of God.
  • Mohican man on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
Hold on tight brothers and sisters to what we KNOW to be YAHWAHS word our rest is coming soon.
  • PAUL on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
It sure reads to me that is talking about the Christmas tree .Why do people want to avoid these verses?? The Christmas tree has nothing to do with Jesus's birth!! It is the way of the heathern
  • David Warbutton on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
I may leave a comment, but ultimately, what did Jesus say? Read Mathew 15:8-14
8 This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.

9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

10 And he called the multitude, and said unto them, Hear, and understand:

11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.

12 Then came his disciples, and said unto him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended, after they heard this saying?

13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up.

14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
  • Edna on Jeremiah 10:3 - 10 years ago
Can you clearly explain this scripture to me. Especially this time of year with the christmas tree. Jeremiah 10:1-5. Thanks
  • Andrew on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
To John's comment on verse 23
Believe it without qualification to the extreme that man has no freewill, will render man not at all accountable to any sin committed, which is not at all supported in Scripture.
  • Andrew on Jeremiah 10:5 - 10 years ago
How the devil has blinded man to worship a molten image even among them who are supposed to be intelligent--we have a lot here!!
  • Josaiah's on Jeremiah 10:23 - 10 years ago
John 15:5 FOR WITHOUT ME YOU CAN DO NOTHING.
He that stays in me, and I in him, the same brings forth much fruit: for without me you can do nothing.

John 15:4 No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither CAN YOU BEAR FRUITS UNLESS YOU REMAIN IN ME.

GOD CREATED US FOR HIS PLEASURE AND HIS JOY AND HIS PURPOSE. GOD IS HIGHLY HAPPILY GLORIFIED IF HUMAN BEING WILL FUNCTION FOR THE PURPOPOSE FOR WHICH HE HAD CREATED US. When the revelation about Jeremiah 10;23 was given me, I woke up from sleep and started to examine my self. The prophesy is all about Christ Jesus
John 6:38 For I have come down from heaven not to do my will but to do the will of him who sent me.
    Revelation 4;11
    King James Bible
Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created.
  • BSP on Jeremiah 10:23 - 10 years ago
This verse shows that it is not our right to direct our own way in life independent of God. So many people try to do this, but they will not be sucessful because this verse clearly shows that we were not meant to be without God. We have to look to God to direct our steps in order for our way to be sucessful.
  • Linda on Jeremiah 10 - 10 years ago
It is not about the tree are what's on it. It is about God and who He is. People have fallen away from God and his will. We are worrying about things. Even our leaders are not seeking God. Men have become like beast showing no love and compassion for one another. God is looking for pure hearts.
  • John on Jeremiah 10:23 - 11 years ago
I think that Jeremiah 10:23 is an important verse that reveals the truth that the freewill of man is not a bible based teaching. This verse, along with many others proves that God's sovereign will alone is free and that man's will is subservient to His will. We are responsible to God not because we are free, but because God has decreed to hold us responsible for the actions which He has so decreed that we would perform from all eternity. Proverbs 20:24: Man's goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way? (KJV). Proverbs 16:1, The preparations of the heart in man, and the answer of the tongue, is from the LORD (KJV). Psalms 37:23, The steps of a man are established by the LORD; and He delights in his way (NAS). Proverbs 16:9 9, The mind of man plans his way, but the LORD directs his steps (NAS) Isaiah 46:10, Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure (KJV). Dan 4:35, "And all the inhabitants of the earth are accounted as nothing, but He does according to His will in the host of heaven and (among) the inhabitants of earth; and no one can ward off His hand or say to Him, 'What hast Thou done?' (NAS). Rom 9:19 19 Thou wilt say then unto me, Why doth he yet find fault? For who hath resisted his will? (KJV). Genesis 45:7-8, (7) And God sent me before you to preserve you a posterity in the earth, and to save your lives by a great deliverance. (8) So now it was not you that sent me hither, but God: and he hath made me a father to Pharaoh, and lord of all his house, and a ruler throughout all the land of Egypt (KJV). Acts 4:27-28 (27) For of a truth against thy holy child Jesus, whom thou hast anointed, both Herod, and Pontius Pilate, with the Gentiles, and the people of Israel, were gathered together, (28) For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done (KJV).

I believe that such holidays are Satan based, if God had meant for us to celebrate Christmas he surely would have made clear the date of Jesus' birthday. Easter? Where is it written that we are to celebrate His resurrection? It is written that we are to celebrate His sacrifice for mankind though.
  • Sis cil on Jeremiah 10 - 11 years ago
Jeremiah was letting us know that to cut trees down and deck it with ornaments and other shining things is vanity. We as people of God should not get into Christmas trees and saying we are children of God. People lie and say that it is Christ birthday, no, it is not his birthday and he told us to remember his death, how he died for our sins. This is a way to get Christian minds off of Christ into falsies.
  • Yuki on Jeremiah 10 - 11 years ago
Hello Christians. I bid you a Good Yule.
  • Deborah on Jeremiah 10 - 11 years ago
I think that the tree represents a dead man and my Lord Jesus Christ isn't dead.
  • Carl on Jeremiah 10:2 - 11 years ago
The verse is meant to reveal the absolute disgust Yehovah has with people who chose to follow empty idolatry, instead of entering into the fulfilling worship of Him and His ways. It actually does not go as far as the verse I believe is in Ezekiel that then states "..and do not do these things saying you are doing them unto Me. It is an abomination unto the LORD (Yahovah) your God (Elohim)."
  • Dave Newland on Jeremiah 10:23 - 12 years ago
This scripture in Jeremiah 10:23 is an inspired word that tells mankind that we need divine direction from Jehovah to succeed in our daily lives. As when he was God and King of the Nation of Israel they prospered, but when they wanted a king from amongst themselves they did not fare well. Just look at the rulers of the world today. Thank goodness God's Son (Christ Jesus) who has repurchased mankind will serve as a King of God's Kingdom and will rule until time indefinite. This rulership will once again direct mankind's footsteps in true righteousness.
  • Bro.Paul on Jeremiah 10 - 12 years ago
More than 90% of the churches believe in Christmas and have trees in the church every year including Adventist churches.I'm a sabbath keeper who can't be fooled these pastors know what they're doing woe unto them. Many of them are doing it for the money..it's a job for them thats all...
  • Not Wesley on Jeremiah 10:23 - 13 years ago
I am not sure who Wesley is and why his "notes" are posted here. But, what he has written there is certainly not what Jeremiah 10:23 says. There is no mention of judgments or the diversion of judgments in any of the translations. And there is certainly no mention of the moderating or limiting of anything by anyone in any of the translations. They simply state that man does not have the ability to direct his own step. (a point that is easily evident with the increasing chaos, disorder, lack of love and lawlessness that we see in the world today.)

ACCURATE knowledge is the only knowledge.
