James Chapter 3 Comments ...

< Back to James Chapter 3

  • E Card
James asked some thought provoking questions that are easy to in word but not in deed. Yet, mankind chooses the worst answer every day. Twisted, rotten, sower, shameful and drinking to much of the devils brew. Living water will make any precious soul the apple of Gods eyes. Look Up!

I know that the bible is the word of God. The tongue is powerful because it says in scripture the words you speak out of your mouth will cause it to happen. We need to guard our tongue and think before we say words that can harm, not forgotten, and can be measured.
  • Brianna vs.10
Can one be a good christian and use profanity? I think not. My co-workers claim to be Christians , but curse with every breath. They even defend their cursing, believing them to just be words, or saying God doesn't care. This verse proves to me that God does care. How can you uttering blessings and saying foul language out of the same mouth? The Bible clearly says this is not right.
  • Richard Boettcher
The Bible tells us that filthy communication corrupt good manners. 1 Corinthians. also James chapter 3 has a lot to say about the tongue. Jesus we will have to give an account of every word we speak Matthew 12:36

That wicked, ever learning but unable to discern Scripture, said to himself (but not aright,) Let us bait him into saying that which is unprofitable: that he may anger God and fall into our pit by the net which we have set for him. I say circumcise thy heart: For the LORD your God is God of gods, and Lord of lords, a great God, a mighty, and a terrible, which regard not persons, nor takes reward:

Your mouth reveals your wickedness. So It is written, For thou shalt worship no other god: for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God: Thus says the LORD of hosts; I am jealous for Jerusalem and for Zion with a great jealousy. God is jealous, and the LORD revenges; the LORD revenges, and is furious; the LORD will take vengeance on his adversaries, and he reserves wrath for his enemies.
  • Tamyra Cooper
Isn't that the truth ---> "Verse 16: Jealousy and Contentiousness give way to terrible attitudes. We must guard against such traits."
  • Ivy Johnson
#5: Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things, behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth! We are guilty of this sin. No matter how we try, there is always something said to upset us. We can’t take it back. It’s already out our mouths. Even if we think before we speak. We are trained to react that way. We have to crucify our tongues.God can give victory.

  • A disciple
Jean (cont.); Better to take the low place, and let the LORD exalt you if and when He sees fit to do so, FOR HIS OWN PURPOSES AND GLORY! In the following verses is expounded to us how and why that is. We need to be brought under subjection and obedience, like a ship by its rudder, and a horse by the bit in its mouth. The uncontrolled tongue has power, and shows how undisciplined we really are.
  • A disciple
Jean; "My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation." Jesus said that whoever of us wishes to be great, let him be servant of all; just as He Himself came, not to be served, but to serve. By taking a place of leadership among the Saints there comes the demand of God with it to be an example of the things with which you teach and lead others.

Verse 16: Jealousy and contentiousness give way to terrible acts and attitudes. We must guard against such traits.

    Love the book of James.

I have been struggling with controlling my tongue so much lately...my living situation is such that for now I am forced to live in close proximity to a couple of unbelievers and I repent and do it again...and its true...it causes so much strife and damage for such a small member...lights huge fires like these verses describe...but praise the Lord I am truly grateful for His chastisement...we learn
  • Sonny
as a new Christian, I love the book of James, I try to live my life the way he would
  • A disciple
BSP; YES! When someone has it in their heart to take the lead, it is a good thing; and for the honor of that place we are to hearken to them and give them double honor, for their labor in the Word. But it is also imperative that they be pure and upright men, and really know of what they speak and teach, as the Lord demands greater from those to whom more is entrusted. Matt. 23:2-3 confirms this.
  • BSP
Verse 1 shows that those men who are taking the lead have a greater responsibility before Jehovah God.
  • A disciple
The Jews' "religion" is not of God! They are the descendant of those who slew the Heir, and seized control of God's vineyard for themselves; (Matthew 21:38; Mark 12:7; Luke 20:14). They are Israel's Rulers which CAUSE THEM TO ERR; for they themselves do not enter the kingdom of God, and they forbid and hinder everyone who does. They do not submit to God, are contrary to all, and do not please Him!
  • Insight777
V12, Jesus taught James that 2 religions can not be 1 religion. Judaism does not morph into Christianity. They are completely different religions, defining God in completely different ways.
The Jews will always fight. They will fight believing, regardless of what pain and suffering they cause, they are directed by God. If that was truth no one would know the name of Jesus.
  • Pam Davidson
And the tongue is a fire, a world of iniquity
  • A disciple
Charles; I appreciate reading your post. Humility is always honest, and for us to wait on the Lord for His direction as to our service; this is great understanding. In Hebrews 11, the part where Paul talks about Moses; its interesting how Moses apparently had already some idea that God was going to use him to deliver Israel from Egypt; and he was called by God, the meekest of men: and he waited!

    Abandon the laws of what?
  • Maria Sanabria
I believed that James the Justice books are clear how we need to follow the laws. I really don't think that Jesus told us to abandon the laws.
  • Irene123
Because the "wise as serpents" quote ISN'T a word for word EXACT quote - I pray someone doesn't jump all over me ............
  • Irene123
Jas. 3:17 - " ... wisdom ..... is ... pure, peaceable, gentle, and easy to be entreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy." Wisdom; we all desire to be wise; "be ye therefore wise as serpents but harmless as doves; wise in our speaking, thinking; but harmless in the same.
  • Charles hendrix
Verse 1 argues that we should NOT all try to be teachers because we are judged more harshly than others, because we are teaching. I declined leading classes in my Sunday School because I felt inadequate in my knowledge and wisdom of the word. The Tongue is a potent thing,Even well intentioned speech when not biblically informed can have disastrous consequence .
  • Evangelist Dahlia Daniels
Don't try to use verse 8 to justify your wrong doing this is not Christian Humble yourself and be ye Patients and don't be so quick to say things when angry always think about who you are suppose to be Representing at all times Practice makes Perfectness don't let people tell you it can't be done because it can of you Really Want It
  • Ricky Termain
Awesome Chapter especially chapter 3verse3 awesome..
  • BSP
Even though the tongue is such a small member of the human body, we can not tame it. We are all imperfect and so we will all say imperfect things. We must work hard to try and control our tongue the best we can.
  • Irene123
The tongue can no MAN tame - but the Lord Jesus can -IF one follows Acts 2:38 and allows the Holy Ghost (spirit of Jesus) to live in us. THAT'S where true Christians get their power. And not hanging around old sinner friends, but PRAYING for them and letting them feel His love in you in witnessing to them.
  • Bruce
Rev.Miller: This man is not Christian. for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh. The tree is known by their fruit. Matthew12:33-34. V 37: for by thy words thou shalt be justified, and by thy words Thou shalt be condemned. Called: John6: 44; forgiving 1John1:9; Baptize you with the Holy Ghost and fire Matthew 3:11. "You will know"! Impossible not to know! 2Corinthians 5:17.
