Verse 5~Jehovah God will not find fault with our prayers if we persist in asking for his help and for wisdom.

I certainly like the comment of Victor P (above), especially the point he makes, "All can see that freedom comes only through Christ and the basic principles that He teaches in His Word." To this I add one might lose his worldly freedom, but there is much more freedom in KNOWING it is but TEMPORARY, only a few years at most; and freedom in knowing Jesus Christ is incomparable, for it's FOREVER.

James 1 is amazing, specifically verses2-8 which I believe is encouragement, admonishment, a warning, and hope. He is encouraging us to ask God for wisdom in hard situations, chatising us about responding like the world, warning us of the negative consequences of our negative decisions, yet giving us hope that if we do it God's way, by faith, we will triumph totally
  • Will on James 1 - 5 years ago
Be careful to remember, this is not James word, or any other. This God's word, or it isnt. Not an opinion of one person or another. It is God's word.

I love James. He doesn’t mince words. He just says what he feels. He obviously was paying attention in class. Some writers put superfluous thoughts and opine. James warns of walking the slippery slope. He genuinely cared for his brethren (us) enough to tell us what to do and what to avoid, and knowing human nature, explains why. Thank you, James for the one clear, concise treatise on to act.

When the variables in the shadow of the turnings of our test wear us down ,,,when THE PRESSURE from the weight of the wind in the storm is so intense it knocks us down! we can get up! WHY? because the joy of the Lord is our strength and our test is no match for one who endured the cross to gain it and impart it to us ... So He is the glory and the lifter of my head that's why It's ALL JOY!!! YES
  • Joe Joe on James 1 - 5 years ago
I think James must have written this book after 70 AD, after the temple was destroyed. When he said to 12 tribes scattered abroad.
  • Victor P on James 1 - 5 years ago
The more I read this, the more I realize that while being in the world, we need to be separate from the world and all the hate that it foments. All can see that freedom comes only through Christ and the basic principles that he teaches in His Word. When men lose their relationship with their God morals are undermined, man ends up in a state of anarchy from our creator and with our fellow men.

It came at a time when I needed it most. Keep up the good work people's all over this world need it. Thank God for his blessing.

Houston; too many rebellious spirits have infiltrated the assemblies of God. Many say, We are not Legalists; others, We are not Religious; and multitudes are misled into a spurious Christianity that uses terms like "accept Jesus as Lord of your life," but NOTHING AT ALL taught about what the power and grace of God through the cross of Christ is really all about; leaving them still in their sins.
  • Houston on James 1 - 6 years ago
James gives the lie to those who say it’s not a religion,it’s a relationship.thank God I can live according to 1:27 and enjoy the blessings true religion brings

Steve morrow; Very good Alongside Scriptures! James 1:2-4; 1 Peter 4:15! Our first priority to LOVE the LORD our God with all our being, and the neighbor as one's self; is why we keep awake and pray, why we read the Word and do all to keep it in mind as we go through our days: so we can overcome the world as Jesus overcame in all things. Our business is not to be in everyone else's business!
  • Victor on James 1 - 6 years ago
...count it all joy when you fall into divers trials ...
  • Linda on James 1 - 6 years ago
I love the book of James. James is straight and to the point for those of us whom have suffered many severe attacks from the enemy, the book of James is comforting. Just this one scripture: Listen intently swift to hear . Speak what God would have you to say slow to speak , slow to wrath anger solves nothing, it is only a distraction. This little song I have had on my heart all morning. My soul loves JESUS, bless HIS name.

Praise God for the word of the Lord! The word is the only way to examine the truth about man to the point where even God says "Man hall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceed out of the mouth of God" It is powerful and a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. A wonderful remedy for things that attempt to alter, distort, or pervert us. The book of James is a mirror.

    That's the truth!

"Jesus spent 3 quarters of His time in Ministry healing the sick and delivering people from the hold of the devil.." John the Baptist preached that every valley would be exalted, and every mountain and hill made low; the crooked be made straight, and the rough places made plain. The work of God is that we believe, and by our faith preparing to meet our God. Patient Endurance in Obedience by FAITH.
  • Darrick Triplett on James 1 - 6 years ago
Knowing this, that the ' trying of your faith ,Faith , And Faith worketh patience.

  • A disciple on James 1 - 6 years ago
"Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience." James 1:3 In the context of all that is here being said by James what were the "temptations" in which they were exhorted to rejoice in? Because of the persecution that arose over the matter of Stephen, all but the Apostles were driven out and scattered, to look for new homes as strangers in foreign Countries. The relentless and merciless pursuit by their own countrymen even into far away lands, was terribly cruel. Now adding the temptations that are more common to us all which have to do with our character and sanctification and the chastisements necessary for growth and coming to maturity this is a very excellent and serious instruction! Jesus spent 3 4 of His time in Ministry healing the sick and delivering people from the hold of the devil all in things for their comfort and well being in this present evil world, and in our present condition of humiliations and temptations! Whatever our troubles, and however we are put to the test walking in truth trusting in the Lord over all we see and feel and experience is the walk of victory and overcoming! Let us consider the things that will be for one another's well being and comfort, and regard our own trials and torments as those things sent by our Father for our healing and freedom, and the end everlasting life.

Verse 5: If we are lacking in wisdom on how to be more pleasing to God we should pray to him for the wisdom and he will offer us the help we need.
  • Emanuel Fernandes on James 1 - 6 years ago
Don't be a partaker of other men sins this means don't participate in sin or cover it up or look the other way. That sin of omission which is a common sin all Christians are guilty of frequently
  • Mumde on James 1 - 6 years ago
I thank God for this book, a brother in Christ was teaching about temptations last week and asked the congregation where all thought temptations come from. It was sad to note that most of us including myself were not sure up until the teacher read from James 1 vs 13. I learnt that I need to read the Bible as much often as possible so I don't miss salvation because of ignorance
  • Doris McIntosh on James 1 - 6 years ago
"keep himself unspotted from the world". Does this not mean that we should not participate in or condone things of the world that we know is sin? People too often say it is just changing times.
"Be not conformed to this world but rather by the renewing of your mind...". I agree that it is very clear James should be applied to every day living.
  • Athieno morrine on James 1 - 6 years ago

Victoria. Amen sister. So sad that so many people blame everything that happens to them on God. Stay strong!
  • A disciple on James 1 - 6 years ago
"But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavers is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed." We are of the world to come which the Lord Jesus brings from the right hand of the Father to establish the world in righteousness and truth and life everlasting. The soundness and solidity of our understanding of this is what makes our faith in Him firmly established and unmovable. We are not uncertain about the truth, that God is! And we are not unstable and flow to the point of least resistance like water but our stability is in the supreme greatness and authority of Him who both created the waters, and walks upon them! Let us strive with all earnestness and determination to let patience have its perfect work in us, that we should not be ashamed at His coming but receive Him with fullness of joy and expectation when He appears.
