Bible Commentary for Isaiah 8:18

Wesley's Notes for Isaiah 8:18

8:18 Behold - These words are literally spoken by Isaiah concerning himself, but mystically concerning Christ; and therefore they are fitly ascribed to Christ, #Heb 2:13|. The children - His spiritual children, whom he had either begotten or brought up by his ministry. Wonders - Are a gazing flock, for our folly in believing God's promises. From the Lord - Which comes to pass by the wise providence of God. Zion - Where the temple now was, and where the Messiah was to set up his kingdom.

Discussion for Isaiah 8:18

  • Alex on Isaiah 8:18
The lord is not impotent he has a seed to sow in humanity. His children are spirits th H.G.PLURAL thats y he refers to the H.G. AS THE PROMISE. Thats y he is saying whosoever receives one such Child in my name receives me,in his name implies he is the father of the child th H.G.Thats y iSAIAH is saying behold me and the children the lord has given me are they not for signs and wonders.Rev 12 the woman John said he saw a sign in heaven, child birth the woman etc Thats y he has to know us that when that incorruptible seed is sown in our hearts initiating a birth of Christ in us. There is a baby Christ in our future thats y he refers to himself as the son of man.Behold me and my children gbu.

Jesus became the Son of Man when the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and conception began. He was Joseph's son as a baby to the community but when he began his ministry, He said he was the son of man.
