Wesley's Notes for Isaiah 40:22

40:22 Sitteth - Far above this round earth, even in the highest heavens; from whence he looketh down upon the earth, where men appear to him like grasshoppers. As here we have the circle of the earth, so elsewhere we read of the circle of heaven, #Job 22:14|, and of the circle of the deep, or sea, #Prov 8:27|, because the form of the heaven, and earth and sea is circular. Spreadeth - For the benefit of the earth and of mankind, that all parts might partake of its comfortable influences.

Discussion for Isaiah 40:22

    This passage in the bible told us that the earth was round and that God stretches the heavens, which we now know that the universe is expanding faster and faster, not slowing down, as an explosion would do, centuries before science would eventually agree that the earth was round. Scientist like Bruno were burned at the stake for even suggesting that the earth was round and that it was not the center of the universe, but Isaiah prophesied it thousands of years ago, before there were telescopes, and orbiting satellites. Just goes to show how far modern science will go to try to avoid, and recognize the teachings of the Bible. Now scientists are really pushing the fact that there is no God, and that there is no need for a God in any religion. They now say that physics and modern astronomy can prove that there is no need for a God, and that all of the complex life, atoms, and DNA were just random accidents over millions of years of evolution, even though that idea completely violates the laws of entropy, Mendele 's laws, and the fact that it has been proven that for all of this to be created by accident has the odds of 10 to the 20th power of happening by accident, and all mathematicians agree that 10 to the 20th power is a mathematical impossibility.

    I think Isaiah 40:22 showing us creating or beginning of earth.WHY GOD HIDDEN this thing from us it is all about faith in god.if god is not know about earth why his prophecy is 100 correct about future.only keep faith in LORD.

    In view of the passage and those related certain scientific claims were made before science came to the same conclusions 1 Earth has a circular horizon 2 the universe is expanding i e being stretched 3 the earth or land is being stretched i e continental drift from Pangaea and 4 God is not only aware of these things but causes them Only bias against Scripture would lead anyone to discount these amazing disclosures Other scientific facts are also hidden in the ancient words of Scripture e g 2nd law of thermodynamics cf Job nuclear war cf Malachi television of images that come to life cf Revelation Aircraft cf Ezekiel Even evolution was subtlely predicted as a great Beast of many animal parts combined in the Book of Revelation it was called a Beast after the Grecian beast of mass conformity in Plato s The Republic Thus it matters not what antitheists may say in scoff or ridicule of Scripture

    700 before Christ and the inspired word of God states plainly for all to see, the Earth is round and this is proven only by Meggelan 2,200 years later. Read this and weep unbelievers and Lefties, for our God reveals the truth inherent in His word.

    If the Earth is spherical So why the church refuse this Idea... and fight to prove that the Earth is Flat --- Galileo also was damned when we claimed that the Earth is spherical ... so Circle is not a sphere ... thanx

    @jeff:
    The early church backed up what was popular and would give the most power a lot of the times. Why do you think that Martin Luther was so outraged that he nailed a letter to the door of the church. Many people understood the false and innapropriate things the church began doing. The "churches" were not following as christ commanded but as sinners wanting personal gain of Christ. That is were puritans came about, looking to KNOW God, not to know of God.
