1Then spake Jesus to the multitude, and to his disciples,2Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses' seat:3All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, thatobserve and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.themselves will not move them with one of their fingers.'4For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and laythemon men's shoulders

The original Covenant is not abolished for Jesus learned from it. He taught in the Temple reading and teaching from the Torah and the Prophets. Noone will succeed without reading the whole Bible. It should be read daily. Baptism should be an acknowledgment and not a free pass to salvation.

This is saying WHEN the new covenant comes, which it has not, "ALL" do no yet know the Lord and we are still teaching our brothers to know the Him. This is that which is spoken of in Jeremiah in 16:19 "...the Gentiles shall come unto thee from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Surely our fathers have inherited lies, vanity, and things wherein there is no profit." The laws are not changed.

Norman, read 1 Peter 3:21. Repentance is the work, baptism is the outward sign that forgiveness of sins has taken place. A new child of God. Romans 6. Water baptism is showing outwardly that which has taken place in the heart. Like Christ being buried and rising again, it shows we are new creatures in Christ, dead to our old ways.
  • Norman Edwards on Hebrews 8 - 8 years ago
In the 12th verse the Lord spoke saying he would be merciful to the people unrighteousness and their sins and Iniquities he would remember no more. This is very important because it proves that not only repentance is required but according to Acts of the Apostles chapter 2 verse 38 every one must be baptized in the name of Jesus for the remission of their sins and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost....baptism saves us...For the Lord not to remember our sins we must be immersed in water...this is part of our salvation...repentance is equal to death...baptism to burial and Holy Ghost to resurrection.

The Truth changes one 's view of how we see Jesus. He is the High Priest, ordained by God, and is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens. The minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which he pitched, and not man. Being ordained High Priest it is necessary that he also have something to offer. He received a more excellent ministry, by which he also is a mediator of a better covenant, which was established on better promises. God 's mercy to the house of Israel and the house of Judah 's unrighteousness, and to their sins and iniquities to remembers no more. Jesus the High Priest who sits on the right hand of the Majesty in the heavens forgave the sins and iniquities of their fathers and their generations. That is amazing to me, that God would forgive them and choose to receive them instead. He didn 't want them to parish, so he chose to forgive them instead, and always reaching out to the people desiring to have them repent and to reach out to him. What an amazing God!

I find this passage interesting, in that some are using verse 13 to actually condone homosexuality. While it talks about the old covenant fading away, it is because of the new covenant. While we should show mercy, we cannot condone those who do not even try to understand nor follow God.

Wow! A wonderful truth the sum of the whole matter. Jesus the minister of the true nd the living santuary that ws nt made with human hand, our high preist, a mediator of a new and better covenant with a perfect and better promises. We re standing on the better covenant with better promises.

Thing is just because god has granted us grace according to the sin we commit we are to forget that the commandment of not taking gods name in vain is what we should not let our minds forget. This has been a big debateful topic that if now we are led through grace should we follow his commandments or no??? A simple answer to this from the Bible itself is from John and that is God says, If you love me you will obey my commands. Beyond this I think there can 't stand any other thing.
  • RUTH on Hebrews 8:12 - 9 years ago
We should imitate our heavenly Father.we should be merciful to our friends and families unrighteousness, to, and remember there sins no more that have been against us.We need the Holy Spirit to help us.
  • Benjamin Montgomery on Hebrews 8 - 10 years ago
The sacrificial lamb....the blood of our Lord and His resurrection was the gift that God offered to we who believe this new covenant took away the fear of what would be under the Commandments and the law of the old and by the Divine mercy, faith and love of the risen Lord Jesus, a new way, a new Grace that promises to those with faith, with love for one another, love and devotion for He who died so that we might know salvation through faith, hope and love, by His mercy, by His Grace, without fear. We remain with responsibility to keep the Commandments of the Father and we must follow the teachings of Christ that are of love and care for one another without judgment, with duty to be the best sinner we can be for the rewards that the new covenant outlines. Let your love that is of the Living Christ within you radiate into the world be generous as your gift is priceless and ask forgiveness where you may have done wrong to another as there is no comparison for what we are forgiven. Have no past that can know your future for through daily prayer, our sins forgiven. Christ spoke often of love for a reason and that when we judge, we leave no room to love. Be love. Know you are blessed no matter your present circumstances and always remember that God promised an advocate to reside within us, the Holy Spirit, so that we always have access to Jesus Christ, until He returns to reclaim His kingdom and all will renew. Be His love and proclaim His word of Grace. Blessings all.

I still don't understand! It truly sounds like all will know him-period! It seems that we are reading into only what we think will make it more sensible and realistic to us.
  • Jean Ann on Hebrews 8 - 10 years ago
I will hide your WORD in my heart so that I may not SIN against THEE! The LORD took HIS WORDS off of tables of stones and put them into our hearts. Only HE can do this. But, let us not use these verses to cover sin. Paul says because GRACE is here should we continue in SIN. Thank GOD for the New Agreement. Let us remember HE died for SIN
  • Jim Reeves on Hebrews 8:12 - 10 years ago
We need to let God do the judging of man. He is far more merciful. Man tends to thrive on the wrong doing of others and God wipes the sins of man completely away from his memory when they accept Christ.
  • Tw on Hebrews 8 - 10 years ago
1-13 is telling us that the first covenant did not work because the Jews could not follow them. It was not just the 10 commandments, it was about 600 or so commandments. They are listed in Exodus.God is letting us know that the new covenant will be put in place when Jesus comes. The laws were made for the Jews. Jesus new covenant was for all of us that believes the Truth from the Bible and follows Jesus instructions.

  • StephendeRafael on Hebrews 8 - 12 years ago
The Apostle Paul talks of the tabernacle, or temple in the desert, established according to the pattern set down by God. In it there was an inner sanctum, most Holy where the power of God, The chicaina glory, the pillar of fire by night, the pillar of clouds by day, The smokey furnace of his wrath, and only the high priest, Aaron or Moses were permittede entry, not without a blood sacrifice. At Golgotha, when our High Priest made the sacrifice of his own blood was this veil to the inner sanctum rent so that all believers, children of the all powerful mighty God and those who confess that Jesus walked on earth in the flesh and was resurrected and is seated at the right hand of power of the living God may have access to Him by that belief. For God has put his spirit into our Hearts and Minds so that we need no earthly priest to teach us doctrine, for we know it from the Father. And further his Son, who walked this earth after his death to make this belief undenyable. All Thanks and Honor to the Father. For his mercy endureth forever.

This word scripture is my saving grace, hope, and expectation. My heart is overwhelmed with upheavals of(THANK YOU's), to the Heavenly Father, My Heavenly Daddy is so beautiful; He wants things easy and not hard. In this scripture of love, I see That King Father Precious Yah, has a yoke that is easy and a burden that is light; not heavy to carry and in that truth; also very and extrmely illuminating.
Dare I say "Brilliant". This is how I Cheryl D. feel about Hebrews 8:10.
