The law was changed by adding the word repent to it to establish the small narrow gate. The murder of Jesus Christ became a unilaterally accountable sin. His crucifixion is not the direct benefit of him having died in your place.

  • Deborah on Hebrews 7:25 - 10 years ago
Jesus Christ is standing in the gap for mankind and interceding in their behalf. He died for me and you and is not willing that any perish, but have everlasting life in Him, our high priest who prays continually for our salvation and deliverance.

THE MELCHISEDEC THE BIBLE WAS REFERRING TO IS OU LORD JESUS CHRIST,ALL BECAUSE HE IS THE SON OF THE LORD,THE HIGH PRIEST,ALL BECAUSE IN JOHN 10;30 HE SAID I AND MY FATHER ARE ONE.

My respond to 9/06/2013, 4:56pm - Comment by "Yusef" about Hebrews Chapter 7: Since Melchisedec abideth a priest continually, therefore he was being "interpreted" then as King of righteousness, King of Salem, King of peace; without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God. In fact, even Abraham himself whom he blessed was considering him as a great man and a great priest by giving him the tithes he was collecting from a priest named, Levi. But that "interpretation" to Melchisedec's greatness shouldn't be taken as literal. He wasn't literally immortal like God so to speak. He's just as equal as Abraham and Levi. Meaning, He's just a human beings who also feared God and have done his service to the Lord. Regarding the issue "God is a jealous God" which was written in Exodus 34:14, it simply means that God is jealous when you worship "other god". These other gods are any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: (to which other people bow down and serve) as it is written in Exodus 20:3-5. Jesus Christ is not among other gods. He was the "Word" in the beginning with God, as mentioned in John 1:1-14 and there's no writings there that says they are partners.
  • Yusef on Hebrews 7 - 10 years ago
If Melchisedec doesn't have a beginning or a end, without mother or father or sibling has he been around since God? And if God is a jealous God that don't like partners, why do people call Jesus God, when Jesus told Mary not to call him God because he answer to His Father who is my Father and your Father, my God and your God? I pray to God... God exist without partners.

I think that during the Old Test days, daily sacrifical offerings were needed for their sins. But in the New Test. Jesus came and completed wiped away sin with his body as a living sacrifice. Which means that ours sins are paid in full for daily and all past present and futures are forgiving to all of the Believers in Christ Jesus.

    @ Reggie,
Comments on Hebrews 7:8. You say: The only way to pay tithes today is to witness that Jesus lives... Our life then becomes a living epistle, in honoring our Great High Priest.
While I like very much the idea of honoring our God by our lives, as living epistles, I dont agree with your idea of not paying tithe. Heres why: The tithes and offerings principle/law was established by God way before Sinai. Remember Abraham paying tithe to Melchisedec ( Genesis 14)? The tithes were supposed to take care of the men of God, the poor and the orphans. The tenth belonged to God before the cross, and is His today. The same Apostle Paul says: The labourer is worthy of his reward ( 1Timothy 5:18), and Even so hath THE LORD ORDAINED that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel ( 1 Corinthians 9:14). You dont suppose the Gospel Workers should be paid of government subsidies?! Your reference to Romans 10:4 doesnt apply. Heres what bro. Malachi says: Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee?: In tithes and offerings ( Malachi 3:8).
But the best argument of paying tithes and offerings is made by Jesus in Matthew 25:40, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto Me. And you know what will happen to those who dont God bless.

    @Don Edward,
Could you please help me understand verses 1-3. Perhaps my comments that I've already submitted will help.
  • Harry Robinson on Hebrews 7 - 11 years ago
Here the writer is making the argument that the law not being perfect had to be replaced with a more perfect law and why Jesus was that replacement. Jesus is the new High Priest after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec. The job of the Priest is to offer up our sacrifice for our sins. The Levitical priesthood had to make sacrifice also for themselves which means that they had sin and therefore not being perfect. Whereas Jesus having not sin offering up himself made it perfect. Levy according to the Law didn't have to pay tithes but receiveth tithes but after the order of Mel-chis'e-dec payed tithes in Abraham. For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the Law. For it is evident that our Lord sprang out of the tribe of Judah: Who is made, not after the Law but after the power of endless life.

The only way to pay tithes today is to witness that Jesus lives. Verse 8 - under the law men who died received tithes, but he who lives forever Jesus receives tithes from them who witness "He lives"! Our life then becomes a living epistle, in honoring our Great High Priest, by believing and confessing Jesus is Lord! Romans 10. Agape. Reggie.

Jesus came to pay a debt he did not owe, because we owed a debt we could not pay. There is no greater Love! He got us in everything we ask or do!

Bless God - In verse 2; Do we all do this. The Word said that Abraham gave tithes (the 10th.) of all the spoil that he received as mentioned in verse 1. Many do not beleive in tithing much less to give more than the amount they are blessed with.
    2. The Priestly office: vs.12 The priesthood changed, the law also changed because of this new Priest. vs.17 A Priest forever after the order of Melchizedek. Vs.21 The Lord Jesus sworn (something He will not forget it or changed His mind)that He will be a Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Vs'24&25 Jesus' Priestly office is unchangable, because He lives forever; therefore, Jesus saves to the othermost all those who are willing to have their lives changed to come to God through Jesus. Jesus makes petition; He intercedes; He intervenes. He goes to God for us. He is our sacrificial Lamb. The levitical priest could not do this, because they are just like us (sinners). I thank God for Jesus who washes me every day, every minute, and every hour. I am looking forward to be with Him. God bless. Lorna.

Abraham set off to rescue his nephew Lot for he was at war with the Kings of that era. Abraham was a mighty warrior and saved Lot through his might. As he was returning from the slaught he was met on the way by Melchisedek, who was a High Priest with father or mother. Everyone introduced in the bible is introduced as the son of someone. Not Melchisedek for he had no descent. Abraham being the greatest warrior on earth gave a tenth of his spoils to the High Priest according to the titheing laws, even though the Levitical laws were not yet given . Therefore these laws were ordained by God as was the High Priest who met Abraham and blessed him.

THE LORD JESUS' FIERY LOVE FOR AILING HUMANITY MADE HIM WILLING TO DIE FOR THEM. THE SAME GREAT LOVE MADE HIM CONQUER DEATH, HELL AND THE GRAVE SO HE CAN FOREVER LIVE TO MAKE INTERCESSION FOR AND SAVE THOSE WHO COME TO GOD BY HIM. WHEN FACED WITH CRUEL AND SHAMEFUL DEATH HE DID NOT DRAW BACK, HE HAD A MISSION TO ACCOMPLISH AT ANY COST, SO THAT HE WILL FOREVER REMAIN A FAITHFUL HIGH PRIEST FOR THEM WHO WILL COME TO GOD BY HIM. THIS IS OUR CONFIDENCE TODAY, WE ARE FOLLOWING THE ONE WHO KNOWS THE WAY AND IS THE TRUTH AND LIFE. WHAT A SAVIOUR! WHO IS LIKE HIM?

  • Vonnie Gilson on Hebrews 7 - 13 years ago
This scripture is so profound( as all of God's word is)one can miss the message. this is telling us that all the earthly priest were " imperfect" and yes, they were mortal, no " oath was sworn " with them
God proclaimed Jesus on the order of Melchisedec because he was the " priest of the most high God" no, he was not greater than Jesus, but "made like unto the Son of God"-vs-3 who is immortal and is the only high priest, who can make intercession for sins because he offered him self up-vs- 28.

God having provided some better thing for us that they without us should not be made perfect",Heb.11:40;after the"bettersacrifices"of the first resurrection are over.you will see Abraham,Isaac, and Jacob sit down in kingdom of heaven: on earth! Remember John3:6...
