Bet; "Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life; but made like unto the Son of God.." Melchizedek naturally DID have a father and mother; but with regard to the recorded genealogies of the Nations, he appears as though not from any of them. In this was he made a type of Jesus the Son of God the Anointed. I hope that answers your question.

  • Ron garcia on Hebrews 7 - 6 years ago
It is very interesting what chapter 7 of Hebrews is revealing to us. This chapter is confirming that the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Godhead, became flesh and dwelt among us, who also established the order of Melchisedec priesthood. Jesus was the second of the priesthood of Melchisedec, both God in the flesh. The Holy Spirit also dwells in the hearts of the believers.

Dear Frank; What the Apostle is explaining to us is about the eternal existence of the Lord Jesus; in how Melchizedek (of whom there is no record in Scripture about his lineage) was taken as a type of Christ. The term, "..men that die receive tithes," simply refers to the mortality, and therefore the weakness of the Aaronic priesthood because the priests did not live for ever.

" and here men that die receive tithes " verse 8 Can someone explain this to me, paying tithes to someone who is dead !!!

  • Hector D on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
Was Abraham under the Law? No! The father of many nations knew something about tithing, he recognized God's blessings for doing so. Should people rob God? Jesus said, give to God what belongs to God. The bookof Hebrews focuses on the superiority of Jesus Christ overall other entities, we areto hold fast to Jesus asthe great High Priest of God. Jesus replaces Judaism as God's revelation of himself
  • Stephende on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
Melkisidec, the high priest who simply was, sent by God, for the benefit of Abraham, the friend of God, the father of both gentile and jew. Truly there is no difference with God. Jesus taught as a Jewish priest, from Jewish literature. He pleased God and was given gifts unimaginable. From wence came the Christian? Was it not from Paul, who was the Apostle of the Gentile by agreement
  • Irene123 on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
Quote, " ..... Hebrews is not meant for Gentiles ..... " unquote. Matt. 24:14 - And this gospel shall be preached in ALL the world ... unto ALL nations; ... "; 28:19 - " ... teach ALL nations ... "; V. 20 - " ... teaching them to observe ALL things whatsoever I have commanded you ... "; ALL the world was not inhabited at that time JUST by Jews.
  • Tami on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
From my understanding, Hebrews is not meant for gentiles. Have to be very careful what you're reading and what dispensation it is. Do gentiles understand what tithing is and how often it was actually done?
(I'm by no means an expert on the scripture but I do follow some well-studied teachers.)
    Amen
  • John L. on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
Tithe is 1/10. Tithing was required for the support of the tribe of Levi because their job was to care for the worship services, tabernacle, furnishings, etc. and could not work, grow crops to eat. The doctrine of the church is sacrificial giving based on prayer and stewardship of what God has provided you. Actually tithe is incorrect terminology for the church.
  • Irene123 on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
To Bitts Bajj - The tithe of the O.T. remains the same in the N.T. If we as church members give our tithes to the homeless, to worldly charities; how are our churches to support themselves - the monthly utilities, the repairs from storms or vandals, the normal repair from wear 'n tear?
Mal.6:7-8. And - the laborer is worthy of his hire, Pastors included. The pastors pay tithes too.
  • Bits Bajj on Hebrews 7 - 7 years ago
In Hebrew 7: the reason Abraham gives tithe is explained, not Isaac,Jacob, Joseph nor Moses. And also why levits receives tithes. Now Jesus the high priest receives tithes, according to the gospel, by giving to the needy. No mortal should receive tithe.

  • Daniel Oyegun on Hebrews 7 - 8 years ago
Verse 1-3 let's us know, Melchizedek is the Eternal, immortal priest of the father in Heaven, a Spirit who like the father is without beginning of days nor end of life, and today in Heaven, Jesus is a Priest after the order of Melchizedek. Melchizedek appeared in human form to Abraham, and this should come as no surprise for Hebrews 13:2 tells us, "do not forget to entertain STRANGERS...

Good news about the name of Jesus. There's no other the under the heaven whereby you can be save. Meaning deliverance from sin. To keep something or someone safe. To stop someone from dying or being hurt, damaged or lost. And i like this one to prevent an opponent from scoring or winning(devil). Praise the Lord everyone!!! Praise the Lord.

Proof by the Word of God, letting us know that He Emmanuel God with us has been here all along. From eternal past, today and eternal forever. What a blessing it is from our Father to comfort us. For those that have eyes to see and ears to hear, we may have rest in Him.

  • Larry Blecha on Hebrews 7 - 8 years ago
I had a preacher in a Church I was visiting state that the tithe of God is 10 of your gross income and if you didn 't pay it you would be cursed by God.Hebrews Chap 7 couldn 't be any clearer that the 10 tithe. was done away with. The New Testament encourages giving from the heart guided by the Holy Spirit as a member of the Body of Christ with no set amount. How do people promoting the 10 tithe not read Hebrew 7?

I 'm attempting to understand these references: Verses 1 thru 4 where it is stated, "For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace Without father, without mother, without descent, having neither beginning of days, nor end of life but made like unto the Son of God abideth a priest continually. Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils. " Are the Scriptures saying this Melchisedec was put here by God and not actually born of woman?
  • Samuel Pickens on Hebrews 7 - 9 years ago
There is but one God. This chapter also should settle tithing.
  • Suresh Joe Arthur on Hebrews 7 - 9 years ago
Melchizedec is not Christ God.He 's eternal, Christ came after Melchizedec 's order. He is known as the power of an endless life. For God testifies Christ as a priest forever after the order of Melchizedec.Melchizedec is the Holy Ghost, dear Bro.He is King of peace,Christ prince Father is God of Peace.Christ 's Perfection comes by God 's Holy Ghost ministry not Levitical priesthood.
  • Evalena Latham on Hebrews 7 - 9 years ago
Before Christ came and died for all men, we lived under the law given by God as He spoke it to Moses. Now that Jesus has paid for our sins we live under God 's Grace. Thank God for Jesus who fulfilled the law as He spoke from the cross "It is finished ". We are now free from the law of sin and death and now live under the law of liberty in Christ Jesus.
