Paul speaking to the jews was saying that the jews, not being indwelt by the Holy Spirit thru Jesus, must strive to keep the law of Moses. This they cannot do. Born again Christians having within them the Holy Spirit and Jesus the Christ do the will of God as He leads and inspires them. That is to say they have found rest in God.
  • Gary Christensen on Hebrews 4:9 - 9 years ago
since we are righteous because we have received by faith the righteousness of God we can rest in his perfectness as if it was our own. Indeed by face it is our own. So we are righteous because he was righteous and then parted to us through face a bright justness. As such having already received I write sins like rice there is no need to seek why works another kind of righteousness. Not that Christians are supposed to do good works what are works do not count toward our salvation nor toward our own righteousness. From Isaiah our righteousness is like filthy rags in God 's eyes. We can now in this world have a rest from our labors as he promised and it 's available to us through face. I believe that I have obtained God 's rest here and now. Not by my own actions but because of His righteous actions imputed to me by face. His Spirit living in me produces it love that must be directed to his creation. As such I am compelled to love my neighbor as myself. These actions do not make me write this. Or perfect. I am already righteous. I am already perfect. By faith in Christ. My actions are an outflow of his and all his love. As such I am at rest. I have entered into his rest by faith here and now. It 's something that every Christian can attain unto by faith in Christ.

I think the main issue here is if you dont mix the word with faith,it dont work, unless it meets faith in the heart, spirit and soul the can it profit someone!
  • Ufondu, Obi on Hebrews 4 - 9 years ago
The sabbatherians always justify their practice with verse 9. But a look at verses 3, 11, indicate something that will happen in feature. The Bible clearly stated, Col 2 16, that Sabbath keeping is thing of the past. God rested after He had finished His work and is still testing till date.We as Christians will enter His rest when we have finished our duty on earth.

Jesus is our great high priest who has passed into the heavens. He is seated at the right hand of the Father making intersesion for us because He can be touched with our weaknesses for He was in all points tempted as we are yet He was without sin. Therefore let us come boldly before the throne of grace to receive mercy and grace to help us in our time of need,

why is ever comment above running away from what chapter 4 is talking about? Olabode you are talking about grace, are you eliminating chapter 4 's truth and replacing it with grace. we shall find grace in chapter 5, there is a lesson in chapter 4 which is missed by a great multitude " God 's rest " we are referred to Genesis, God rested and sanctified a day and rested on it. why are we paying title if we only relay on Grace.
  • WD. Harris on Hebrews 4:2 - 9 years ago

  • Thomas on Hebrews 4 - 9 years ago

  • Daniel on Hebrews 4 - 9 years ago
Regarding verse 4. It is obvious that God was not tired so that he needed to rest. We know from verse 6 that to enter into God 's rest requires one to have faith and believe. Unbelief constitutes pride. When God rested, he symbolically put away pride after having accomplished such a great creation. When we trust in God, we also put aside pride our own good works and enter into God 's rest through faith.

The grace of God is all sufficient for us. Once we continually fellowship with God intimately we can grow in his grace. His grace is readily available to us and this scripture I believe clearly tells us how we can obtain it.

Why do so many christians in America keep sunday as the day of rest? I know that somewhere in hisstory the catholics changed the sabbath day to sunday, does that mean that sunday worship christians are worshiping in vain? My mother raised us as pentecostal and she walks a very straight line when it comes to her faith in God, and I have been a witness to the power of her prayer in peoples lives especially my own but she does not keep the sabbath. At this moment I do not visit any church because I find my self at the cross roads of these two days.I have read alot of literature about the Christian sabbath and what goes along with christians who keep it like not celebrateing Christmas and not eating certain foods ect. So bottom line is does God acknowledge you as a Christian regardless of the day you keep?
  • Olabode on Hebrews 4:16 - 9 years ago
Grace is God 's unmerited favor. It is kindness from God we don 't deserve. It was grace that qualified Paul I Timothy 1 15 He referred to himself as chief of sinner. All born again christian, it is through grace we obtain mercy. To ask and receive something from God, it is through grace.

The word of God is quick and powerful meaning that, we can use the word to address many issues of life, for example,it can be used to resist devil has Jesus Christ did in Mathew4,Luke4. It can be used to bring deadly things back to life Ezekiel 37. It can be used to address past, present and future restoration . If we belief in the word of God, it will work for us and correct us any time we want to deviate from his will.
  • Olabode on Hebrews 4:12 - 9 years ago

The rest is having all our trust and confidence in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The people in the old testament did not enter into God rest because of unbelief. They constantly shifted their confident from God to the gods of Baal. In 1kings18, Elijah the prophet challenged them of dwelling between two opinion. Baal and God. Joshua challenged equally the people to decide whom the will serve. For we to enter into the promise rest, we must totally look unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith. No matter the trial, temptation or persecution we are passing through in life or in our Christian race..Jesus in the book of Mathew admonish us to throw our yoke on him.
  • Simon on Hebrews 4 - 9 years ago
To enter into his Rest is to Remember the Sabbath day to keep it holy Exodus 20 8. Hebrews 4 4 9 4And in this place again, If they shall enter into my rest. 6Seeing therefore it remaineth that some must enter therein, and they to whom it was first preached entered not in because of unbelief 7Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. 8For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. 9There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. Harden not your hearts for Jesus did kept the 7th day sabbath and since we all claim to love him we should not harden our hearts but follow him. John 14 15 Jesus said, "If you love me keep my commandments " Please people of this world stop saying and start following. Matthew 7 21 "Not everyone who says to me, 'Lord, Lord, ' will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father who is in heaven. Roman 7 7 7What shall we say then? Is the Law sin? May it never be! On the contrary, I would not have come to know sin except through the Law for I would not have known about coveting if the Law had not said, "YOU SHALL NOT COVET. " God wrote it with his finger that makes it special.. Love the written word literally because God Loves us Jesus is all the world to me my life my joy my all he is my friend from day to day without him I am lost Thank you Jesus

what if this verse had to do with relationship. we ask Jesus to come into our lives. so, He does moving powerfully through our bodies and into the secret place of our lives between the soul and spirit and discerning our thoughts and intents. Ps. 91 It is here that he sets up His throne and we worship Him and we hear Him and He hears us. Just a thought.
  • MockingBird on Hebrews 4:12 - 9 years ago
The word of God will cut and the Word of God will heal. His word will also reveal to me the thoughts and intents of my heart that I do not know about as of yet. I praise God that He knows me better than I know myself. !!! Sometimes that is scary but Praise God when I allow His word to do what it is suppose to do then I will be Blessed beyond measure.
