The best book on understanding what faith is and more importantly who the object of faith is, is a book called The Faith Response by John Van Gelderen. Is there such a thing as "great" faith or "little" faith as we have been taught. Faith, I learned is not a work but dependence upon the "worker" and that our emotions run contrary to our dependence upon the Lord. Faith is continued or durational dependence on the faithful one and His words. So many great truths about faith.

  • Charles on Hebrews 11
This hope of which Hebrews talks about is the promise made by the Father that if we do His will, we already have a place with Him. That is a sure thing. That is the substance. If we exercise faith, that substance is guaranteed. Whereas we can say I hope it doesn't rain, but nothing is guaranteed. Therefore it is not hope but a wishful thinking that may or may not come to pass. However, the promise made by God is a sure thing conditioned on our trust in Him.
  • Cynthia houlker on Hebrews 11:1
Salvation depends on Faith in Christ alone. So, knowing I can trust Him to save my soul from hell and destruction. While I walk this dark world, my soul knows that I can have Faith in Jesus Christ, even when my sight tells me to doubt. Amen and Amen.

  • Wb-jr on Hebrews 11:1
The only way we can please GOD is by faith. GOD has given us all a measure of faith.
  • "Hoped". Why not "hope". Things we "Hope" for are in a future sense. Example: I hope it does not rain, but it did rain. Or I hoped it would not rain and it did not. Past tense or future tense. Hoped versus Hope, "Hoped"; states it is already done. That is why "Faith is the substance of things Hoped for, The Evidence of things not seen". Our Salvation is complete in Christ Jesus. The evidence is in our Faith that God The Father has gifted us with. Faith is given by God, to us. We have not seen the completion of our Salvation, yet in Christ Jesus it is complete.
