People's Bible Notes for Hebrews 4:2

Heb 4:2 For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them. We have the promises of the gospel, but they had the promises of an earthly land of rest preached to them. They broke the covenant on which the promises were based. The word which they heard did not profit them. The reason was that it was not received in unfaltering faith. Hence they did not obey it. So unbelief would make the gospel to us of none effect.

Discussion for Hebrews 4:2

  • Greg Aguilera for verse 2
They heard the gospel preached as well but did not mix it with faith. So how do we mix the word with faith? Well lets look first at the children of Israel they heard caleb and joshua but they didn't mix faith with their report but instead they mixed faith with the evil report. How? They talked about the giants in the land instead of the report of faith that they were well able to take the land. Mix faith with God's word and say what God declared, We can do all things, My God shall supply all my needs according to his riches in glory.
  • Samsons for verse 2
The hearing of the word of God, we concieve in our spirit and the act of faith by doing acting the word, we give birth and that is the profiting is talked about.
  • Kenneth for verse 2
I think the main issue here is if you dont mix the word with faith,it dont work, unless it meets faith in the heart, spirit and soul the can it profit someone!
  • WD. Harris for verse 2
I think faith in the Word the Gospel of God is the way to true prosperity. Without faith it is impossable to please Him.
