  • K S REDDY on Genesis 5
This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him;-Does GOD HAVE shape like humans as man is said to be likeness of GOD
  • Beth on Genesis 5
God did not mean Adam would die that day,He ment eventualy he would die.God intended man to live for ever no death .that is why he had to send JESUS SO HE COULD GIVE US ETERNAL LIFE .
  • Carolann shortt on Genesis 5
Did Noah's family have children with each other to continue the population that we have today? If not explain further.
  • J.R. on Genesis 5
    @Bill,
Two things I would like to ask:
    1. Have you ever heard of Gobekli tepi in Turkey? Look it up,
    2. Since we are reading a third translation, it behooves you (and anyone) to take words, and break them down into how other languages them. For example, you could say power, but the Latin or Hebrew meaning of the word power could be authority, or it could mean power (like a man working).
  • Paul E Jones on Genesis 5
Look at how Evil Men can become in our short life time of today. School shootings, Child molesting, rape, Murder, Homosexuality, Degradation, War, oppression, etc.. Could you Imagine 900 Years of Life. Just think how hard it would be to quit smoking after 500 years. How about an 600 year old Cocaine addiction. Or someone who's dwelt on child molesting for 800 years. No wonder God had to destroy Mankind. I would imagine people would be so given over to sin by 900 years of age that all their thoughts would be violent and evil. People in Americas Society Man can become Murdering Cannibals by age 50, Dahmer. How can Man look at our society and still say "I am Good". Without Christ inside Guiding us, We are just brute beasts who's righteousness is as filthy rags in the sight of God. People need the Lord.
  • Vincent on Genesis 5
If Noah was 500 years old when he had 3 sons, then how old was Mrs. Noah?
  • Vincent on Genesis 5
Why did Adam live beyond the day he sinned? Remember God told him he will surely die the same day. In the book of 2 Peter, one day is like 1000 years, and 1000 years is like a day to God. Thus, Adam did not lived beyond one day. Time is many days old, but no human has ever seen a day. Methuselah came very close; he lived 969 years.
  • Peter on Genesis 5
Good thing no one lives 900 years anymore. Their 401 year would run out!
  • Abdul on Genesis 5
I think most people are missing the whole point, here. Most people can't follow the language anymore, so they read it as if it is talking about the lineage of human physiology; however, it's not. But what it is speaking about is what forms human community life. It says his name was called Adam. Man means mind and woman means womb of mind. It takes the two together to be complete. Logical thought comes out of human sensitivity. It is locked up in a language that most of the ignorant (unknowing) can't recognize anymore. It is the language of creation.
  • Chanel on Genesis 5
Clearly the message is be fruitful.
  • Arlis Johnson Jr on Genesis 5
I am wondering if Seth is the beginning of the ancestry of the present day Israeli Jews. Seth is mentioned as being Adamís own likeness and image, therefore hinting that he is more in the image of God than say Cain or Abel. Is this a split in linage or will I be convinced otherwise as I read on? Help me.
  • Peter on Genesis 5
Wow, people sure lived a long time in those days. What do you get someone for their 600th birthday? If someone asked one of these guys how old they were and they answered 637, would you say "you don't look it"?
  • John on Genesis 5
@Jaida's comment posted 7/28/2012: You're looking at it backwards. Everything you mentioned was set about well after the fact. It only works the way you laid it out because those connections were made by people well after the stories.
  • Clement on Genesis 5
The historical line is not detailed but this is a test of faith, any element of doubt is dangerous to our belief,. The most important is appreciating the little historical facts and integrating it to the earlier chapters and those after it with a strong faith at where we are today and looking forward to meet our Lord as His good children, may the Lord uphold us in Jesus name, Amen
  • Lori on Genesis 5
There is no reason to fear for the Bible does have literal meaning only-The question is not "what does it say but do you believe what it says" Please see Youtube Dr Kent Hovind : Mysteries of the Garden of Eden-very enlightening!!!
  • Peter on Genesis 5
The fact that people believe the word literally never ceases to amaze (and frighten) me.
  • Lorral Weaver on Genesis 5
This is for all of those who want to know where Caine got his wife. In those days, they spread out, and Adam & Eve lived a lot longer than we do today, I have been taught that because of this , that Caine married one of his sisters, their race was a pure race, so they had to marry into their families, later on God only allowed the Hebrew, after Moses to only marry their first cousins within their own tribes,{Reuben, Judah, Simeon, etc.I hope that this has been some help to you guys.
  • Eric on Genesis 5
Enoch walked with GOD all the days of his life. And for this reason he did not die, but rather GOD took him. For us to be also taken by GOD on the DAY OF RAPTURE we must walk with HIM in all circumstances we may find ourselves.
  • Jaida on Genesis 5
    Adam means Man
    Seth means Appointed
    Enosh means Morta
    Cainan/Kenan means Sorrow
    Mahalalel means The Blessed God
    Jared means Shall Come Down
    Enoch means Teaching
Methuselah means His death shall bring
Lamech (where we get lamenting) means the Despairng
Noah (see gen 5:29) means Rest (or Comfort)

Man (has) appointed mortal(s) sorrow; (but) the blessed god shall come down teaching| (and) his death shall bring the despairing comfort.

If you disect each and every passege you can really see a divine bieng weaving codes in the passeges.
  • CHERYL on Genesis 5
ADAM AND EVE WERE THE FIRST HUMANS ON EARTH, FEMALES ARE NOT ALWAYS RECORDED IN THE GENEOLOGIE S EXAMPLE IT IS STATED THAT JACOB HAS ELEVEN SONS BECAUSE THE SONS WERE SIGNIFICANT BUT HE ALSO HAS AT LEAST ONE DAUGHTES HENCE CAIN'S WIFE WAS HIS SISTER. WHAT IS NOT STATED CLEARLY IN THE BIBLE MEANS IT IS NOT SIGNIFICANT TO OUR SALVATION SO IT MAKES NO SENSE TO BE CONFUSING OURSELVES ABOUT WHERE CAIN'S WIFE CAME FROM JUST TRUST THE WORD OF GOD AND LET US LIVE HOLY LIVES PLEASING TO THE LORD. AMEN.
  • Godfred on Genesis 5
i am confused as to where Cain had his wife, because the Bible told us that God first created Adam and Eve only, they had two sons,Cain and Able, and these are the four human being who leaved by than, so how come Cain got married, from whose daughter?.
  • Xolelwa on Genesis 5

  • Angela rowe on Genesis 5

  • Amy on Genesis 5
chapter 4 verse 1 says and adam knew eve his wife; and she conceived , and bare cain so adam did father cain cathy understand what your reading because when eve said she was beguiled she meant enticed, tricked, fooled, manipulated , etc etc something like that and cain sinned because he was born a sinner like the rest of us because of eve's sin that brought sin to everyone except Jesus. No matter how great or small your sin we all sin
  • Amy on Genesis 5
response to lisa chapter 5 verse 4 says adam had sons and daughters so there were other woman
  • Annie Mckenzie on Genesis 5
God gave this beautiful book to us to learn from and teach others. Thank you
  • Lisa on Genesis 5
I THINK IT IS SOME WHAT CONFUSION. HOW DID CAIN HAVE A WIFE WHERE DID THE OTHER WOMEN COME FROM? HIS MOTHER EVE WAS THE ONLY WOMEN, HOW WAS MORE PEOPLE PUT ON EARTH ?
  • NotYou on Genesis 5
@Myth Buster - Save it for another site. Also, do you really believe events occurred exactly as they happened in secular historical accounts? Weird you can put so much faith in a scientific book, that requires a good measure of deductive reasoning on topics with little evidence, and have so little faith in the Bible. You've busted nothing.
