Melchizedek, who many Christian and Theologians believe He was a manifestation of Jesus Christ himsel, a Theophany. Gen 14:8 says, he was King of Salem, which mean peace, and priest of the most high. Heb. 7:3 says, concerning this man that he is "without father, without mother, without descent having no beginning of days nor end of life but made like unto the Son of God abideth a Priest continually. The Scripture also says, the lesser Abram is blessed of the greater Melchizedek. May God bless us all and in the understanding of His Word.

Jim, yes the bible is speaking of Israel because Abram grandson Jacob who name was changed to Israel by God was still in his grandfather 's loins is the person the nation is named after. The true subject is God, Jesus Christ our lord and Saviour, and the Holy Ghost. God said in Ezekiel 39:7 " So will I make my Holy name known midst of my people Israel ..... God bless us all and the understanding of His Word.

Hello Julie In addition to my 2 part response, I would like to make a correction. God had already changed Abram 's name to Abraham prior to the conversation about Lot in Sodom.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Part 2 of 2 God had already given his word to Abram that he was going to bless him, so God showed Abram mercy, because he did err by taking Lot with him. I am going to deduce here that Abram must have loved Lot his nephew this is why he allowed him to come with him. However, when God tells you that you have to leave family, it hurts but sometimes you have to in order to do the work of God or to be blessed. The reason I came to the conclusion of the care that Abram had for Lot, if I can say it like this, is because God was thinking whether or not to hide what he was about to do to Sodom where Lot had took up residence from Abram. Because he knew that Abram would go after Lot and try to hinder the LORD from doing justice and judgment. So then the LORD struck up a dialogue between him and Abram. At the end of the conversation with 10 being the judgment number of God. The LORD went his way, as soon as he had left communing with Abraham and Abraham returned unto his place , Genesis 18 17 thru 33.

Part 1 of 2 Hello Julie I would think he did err, because the Land that God had told Abram to go to was not able to sustain both Abram and Lot s substance, Genesis 13 6 And the land was not able to bear them, that they might dwell together for their substance was great, so that they could not dwell together . Then strife broke out between the herdsman of Abram and Lot, Genesis 13 7 And there was strife between the heardmen of Abram s cattle and the herdmen of Lot s cattle and the Canaanite and the Perizzite dwelled then in the land . Lot wind up separating from Abram like God wanted from the beginning. He departed into the plain of Jordan, before the LORD destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah. It was not until Lot left that God renewed his promise to Abram, Genesis 13 14 15 And the LORD said unto Abram, after that Lot was separated from him, Lift up now thine eyes, and look from the place where thou art northward, and southward, and eastward, and westward For all the land which thou seest to thee will I give it, and to thy seed for ever .

Question Was Abram in err to allow Lot to go with him? God told Abram to get a way from his kindred???
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
In addition to my five part comment, this is the Fourth Dispensation. Some scholars will probably say that this dispensation ended with them being freed from Egypt, however others say when God decided to give Moses the laws for his people.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Part 5 of 5 He brought the children of Israel under bondage and oppression, brought the end of this dispensation with the seed of Abraham working as salve, in poverty, miserable, and wretched, in the brickyards of Egypt and other services, Exodus 1 14. By the time this new Pharaoh was done with them, the children of Israel was ready to get out of Egypt. They longed for the promise and the deliverance to a land that flowed with mild and honey. Now that God got their attention they became focused on the one true God, longing to be free. They began to put their priorities back in order.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Part 4 of 5 Summing up this dispensation Some of the promises to Abram and his descendants were purely gracious and unconditional upon the faithfulness and obedience of the Israelites. Every one of these conditions was violated and the dispensation of promise resulted in the failure of Israel and closed in the judgment of bondage in Egypt. Judgment fell after Joseph died and a new Pharaoh arose who did not know Joseph, Exodus 1 8. He feared that the Israelites, who became numerous and was strong, would one day side with their enemies and overthrow Egypt, Exodus 1 10.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Part 3 of 5 God salvation was for Abram to get out from amongst his kindred and go into a land that God would show him. His reminder of this salvation was the covenant he would make with him through the circumcision of all the males with Abraham. There is no Bible reference to any women being circumcised. It was only with the males. Also did you know that our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was circumcised as well, St. Luke 2 21? Now for all men, especially Christian men, if our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ was circumcised then all men should be circumcised. He is our example.
  • Evangelist Chatauna Robinson on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Part 2 of 5 During this time God established his covenant with Abram. He changed his name from Abram to Abraham. He stated that Abraham would be the father of many nations, Genesis 17 4 thru 9. God also changed the name of Abraham s wife from Sarai to Sarah, Genesis 17 15. The covenant that God established between him and Abraham was that every male child would be circumcised of the **, Genesis 17 10 thru 14.

Part 1 0f 5 Hello Everyone First let me say this, the Bible is broken up into seven dispensations of time. God has always had one way of salvation under each dispensation. These passages of scriptures fall up under the Dispensation of Promise. It starts with the call of Abram, whose name was changed later to Abraham, to the giving of the law to Moses on Mount Sinai. This dispensation was exclusively for the Israelites. It was a time of testing of God s chosen people. The salvation plan was that Abram was to get out of his country and from his kindred and father s house and go to a land that God would show him, Genesis 12 1 thru 3.

Before we make any life changing move in our lives be it career, marriage, where to live, where to fellowship, it is very good and great to first pray to God and hear clearly from Him. This will give you peace and fulfilment both now and in the future. This will also help you in your walk of faith. The more tests from God we pass the more promotion He gives us starting from the spiritual realm to all areas. The life of faith could be wonderful if we will train our hears to receive from God. The more of the truths of the Bible we acquire through reading, digesting, meditating upon, memorising and practicalizing it, the more the Voice of God will come clearly to us.

What was the Pharaoh punished for?
  • Barbara Radle on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
It says Abram called upon the name of the Lord. To me it is therefore implied that the Lord gave Abram some advice to tell them Sarai was his sister not his wife so that Abram would not be killed and could live on to fulfill his work for the Lord. Notice even when the Pharaoh discovered that Sarai was Abrams wife not his sister, the Pharaoh did not have Abram killed for it, he just sent him away.

I BELIEVE THAT THE GENESIS 12 19 SPEAKS FOR ITSELF MAYBE OR MIGHT IS NOT A FACT, BUT A POSSIBILITY THAT SOMETHING COULD HAVE HAPPENED BUT DID NOT THAT IS WHY THE TERM MIGHT WAS USED IF PHAROH HAD TOUCHED ABRAHAM 'S WIFE HE WOULD HAVE BEEN DEAD .
  • Tmaika on Genesis 12 - 9 years ago
Abram is like the average believer... this is how I interpret chapter 12... he trusts God sometimes, not all the time he followed God 's word to leave his country.. but he did not obey when God told him to leave behind ALL FAMILY he brought Lot then feared he would be killed when Pharaoh his wife Sarai was beautiful to the eye... basically we verily get blessed when we obey every word our Lord God says to us!

    very interesting
  • JEAN on Genesis 12:5 - 10 years ago
GEN 12 5 is the true interpretation of Hebrew 11 Abraham did not have any example set before him For the first time God talked to a man to exercise the real meaning of faith without questioning God s purpose he took his possession and those who trusted his belief to travel to a strange land How many of us are ready to go to Canaan with the same faith
  • Maureen on Genesis 12 - 10 years ago
God is Faithful in the sense that he keeps to his promises. God told Abraham that: I will make thee a great nation, bless thee and make your name great. I will bless them that blesses you and curse him that curses you.Althought the promises long a long time but at the set time it came to pass. According to the scriptures Father Abraham stager not at the promises of God through unbelief but he was strong in faith giving glory to God. No wonder it was counted to him for righteousness. This tells us that if we are patient enough, in Gods own time he will make all things beautiful in our lives.

WHEN YOU TRUST IN GOD WITH ALL YOUR MIND, SOUL AND ENTIRE BEING, AND GOD'S MERCY AND FAVOUR IS UPON YOU,YOU CAN FACE ANY TRIAL AND COME OUT VICTORIOUSLY. THAT IS WHAT HAPPENED TO PAPA ABRAHAM. HE IS LOVED AND HIGHLY FAVOURED BY GOD. FOR MAMA SARAI, BECAUSE SHE AND PAPA ABRAHAM ARE ONE, SHE IS ALSO MOVING UNDER THE SAME FOVOUR. THANK YOU.
