You're true Eva, vs 1 was the age where Lucifer was given to rule in his Eden of stones and dinosaurs,dragons etc lived until Lucifer sinned and fell with a third of the angels,murdering everything and God shut down that age. How many millions of years between vs 1 and vs 2, nobody knows until recreation started in vs 3. John1:1 should be placed before Gen1:1 then we could see the true sequence.
God created the living word, the word was in the biginning all the things which have breath. Not spoken or written. There is the word of God and the word of man. Man is a word of God, Jesus is a word of man.
Perhaps too much is being made of Genesis Ch1 Verse 3 "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." I don't think God means that he created 'a light' at this point but only created the concept of light to act to push back the darkness. Perhaps the light, after he creates it, comes from his glory. Much the same way a worker might turn on a desk lamp to light his workbench.

In verse 3 ..And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. what kind of light he was talking about maybe Jesus ? obviously is not the light of the sun, because not until verse 14,15,16,17 and 18 God created the Sun , The Moon and the stars. so right at the beginning of creation god created a "light" in verse number 3.

Funmilayo, He was there! Read about it in John 1. Jesus was the Word who became flesh and was indeed present as God at Creation. Never understood John 1 as a child so I was excited to finally grasp this concept as an adult.

"And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat"
So... herb bearing seed and fruit from seed bearing trees for the human and green herbs for the animals.
I think the words "In the beginning" refers to our (human beings) history Only. I believe there are other histories we need not concern ourselves about. Angelic beings also has there own history because they existed even before the earth existed. So it will be gullible to think the first three word in genesis 1 is where it all started. What if our history is only one book in a vast library.
This is something to consider: Genesis 1:1 says "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." But in John 1:3 Jesus says that he is the one who did this. So who is right?They both are because God is Jesus and Jesus is God. John 1:1 says it like this: "... and the Word was God." And too, this is what Thomas meant in John 20:28 when he called Jesus "My Lord and my God. Amen.
