Bible Commentary for Genesis 6:6

Wesley's Notes for Genesis 6:6

6:6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man upon the earth - That he had made a creature of such noble powers, and had put him on this earth, which he built and furnished on purpose to be a comfortable habitation for him; and it grieved him at his heart - These are expressions after the manner of men, and must be understood so as not to reflect upon God's immutability or felicity. It doth not speak any passion or uneasiness in God, nothing can create disturbance to the eternal mind; but it speaks his just and holy displeasure against sin and sinners: neither doth it speak any change of God's mind; for with him there is no variableness; but it speaks a change of his way. When God had made man upright, he rested and was refreshed, #Ex 31:17|. and his way towards him was such as shewed him well pleased with the work of his own hands; but now man was apostatized, he could not do otherwise, but shew himself displeased; so that the change was in man, not in God.

One of satans other names is: DESTROYER. He is the ACCUSER of the brethren. He is a murderer, a liar. Revelation 12:10, Job chapter 1-2; Zechariah

Actually in Isaiah chapter 14:12-16, satan says I WILL 5 times!

One of satans other names is: DESTROYER.

There is the Will Of God. God gave FREE WILL to Adam and Eve.

But there is another will operating that is not a part of Gods purpose for earth or mankind. I think when satan was kicked out of Heaven, he retained his WILL.

Don't blame God for the bad things that happen to you and others. We have Jesus now. I look at Job and he was a righteous man. Keep yourself & family soaked in prayer! Be alert

There is no discrepancy in God's Word. In regard to God's repenting because He created man in earth was not because of God sinning as man does. God cannot sin. Repentance is being sorrowful in your heart for human sin (disobeying God). God was sorrowful for His creation, not GOD sinning. Thank God, Jesus paid the price for OUR sin...He was without sin....God loved us (creation) enough to make way to be with Him through the Cross and Blood of His pure Son. Today repent for your sin, ask Jesus to save you, believe in your heart He died and rose again and confess Him as your Lord and Savior. Saved by grace..a gift from God...God with us..Thank You Lord Jesus!!!

RC that is the best explanation I have ever heard of repentance.
well done. Mark 1:15 - .... Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,......And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.
Mark 6:12 - And they 12 apostles went out, and preached that men should repent.
Jesus speaking in Luke 13:3 - I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

No on can disappoint God. He knew what would take place. He hates sin, and that was what grieved him.

how disappointed was God with man that it grieved His heart that He was sorry for creating us i can only shudder at how He feels right now with all that is going on in the world
  • Susanna on Genesis 6:6
I am deeply stirred at the thought of Almighty God, Creator of everything, being grieved in His heart (as only a Lover can be). How grieved, then, must He be today; with every part of the world filled, again, with ever-increasing violence. I can only say, Come, Lord Jesus! Come quickly!

BUT in Numbers 23:19 It says .

"God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent:"

It seems like a Discrepancy ?
