Bible Commentary for Genesis 19:5

Wesley's Notes for Genesis 19:5

19:3 And he pressed upon them greatly - Partly because he would by no means have them to expose themselves to the perils of lodging in the streets of Sodom, and partly because he was desirous of their converse.

19:4 Here were old and young all from every quarter - The old were not past it, and the young were soon come up to it. Either they had no magistrates to protect the peaceable, or their magistrates were themselves aiding and abetting.

Discussion for Genesis 19:5

  • Shakeem on Genesis 19:5
This seems like a form of gang rape. However it didn 't say that they wanted to have sexual relations with them it said they wanted to know them, but know them informally. Yet this still remains a mystery to us because we cant prove but give opinion since it was something wicked.
  • Penny on Genesis 19:5
I am not so sure the indication is about homosexuality It would seem it is more about involuntary sexual participants
  • Darrell Corner - in Reply on Genesis 19:5
They were sodomites and they did not want Lots two Girls so they pressed into to over take the Men or Angels and they Blinded them! they want to sodomise them.....Obvious
  • Isaiah on Genesis 19:5
If all the people of Sodom and Gomorrah wanted was for Lot to reveal the identity of the strangers, he wouldn't have offered his virgin daughters instead of the strangers. They actually wanted to have sexual intercourse with the strangers. And they were destroyed because of their homosexuality.
