Wesley's Notes for Genesis 16:7

16:7 Here is the first mention we have in scripture of an angel's appearance, who arrested her in her flight. It should seem she was making towards her own country, for she was in the way to Shur, which lay towards Egypt. 'Twere well if our afflictions would make us think of our home, the better county. But Hagar was now out of the way of her duty, and going farther astray, when the angel found her. It is a great mercy to be stopt in a sinful way, either by conscience or providence.

Verse 4: Hagar began to show disrespect towards Sarah. When we receive a privilege or good happens to us, we want to continue to show respect to other people and not look down on anyone.

    Verse 13
Whatever name we would choose to give God would say as much about our need as it would about the character of God. It is through our need that we experience God in our deepest way. God watches over what He created. Hagar discovered that in the desert. We need a gentle reminder also. God does see us! Thank you Father for your unfailing love for the world you created and for me also.
