Dewey J...How do you explain Genesis Chapter 2? God wasn 't talking to the Jews or Christians! Genesis 2:1-3 1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Neini Curulala, very interesting and controversial subject of the day Christians should observe the Sabbath. Let us remember that God is speaking to Israel or the Jewish nation in its infancy therefore they should observe the Sabbath on Saturday. The Christian church began in houses of Christians because the Jews kicked them out of synagogues. The Early Christians started to observe the Sabbath on the first day of the week which would be Monday on the Jewish calendar. Most Christians of the world observe and I can 't see from Scripture any better reason than to honor the resurrection day of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who himself fulfilled the whole law. As Jesus said in John 4:22 "Ye worship ye know not what: we know what we worship: for salvation is of the Jews ". But salvation is by Jesus Christ who came through the Jewish nation and is himself the salvation of mankind. Mark 2:27 Jesus said, "the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Let us not be like the Pharisees which Jesus told in Matt. 23:24 "Ye blind guides, which strain at gnat, and swallow a camel ". God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it is a sign between me and you throughout your generations that ye may know that I am the LORD that doth sanctify you. 14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore for it is holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth any work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people. 15 Six days may work be done but in the seventh is the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth any work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. 16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, for a perpetual covenant. 17 It is a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed. First I wish to confirm that Sabbath is Saturday and NOT Sunday. Sunday is the first day of the week the victorious day when Christ rose form the dead. Iam in awe at the emphasis and weighting put on this commandment and the repercussions if it is disobeyed. I truly want to make an effort to keep the Sabbath and offer apology for the past 62 years of disobedience. So help for God and have mercy.

Peter I cannot say what is right for you, but for me, I try very hard to keep Sunday as a day of rest reflection. Thererfore, I limit my physical activities to simple personal needs i.e. making pancakes. Remember, Jesus his disciples picked corn on the Sabbath because they were hungry. Also Jesus healed on the Sabbath saying something like "is it wrong to do good on the Sabbath? ". If my neighbor were in distress needed help on the Sabbath, I would gladdly help him. If the same neighbor wanted help in planting a garden on the Sabbath I would offer to help him the next day.

Does mowing your lawn on Sunday count as work ? How about making pan cakes ? hope not. I did both last Sunday.

Besaleel and Aholiab were filled with the spirit of wisdom, understanding and knowledge to make what God commanded them in gold, brass and silver. When God gives us a duty to carry out He has also equiped us with all the neccessary resources to excel. When we are not achieving tangible result, perhaphs it is because we are not doing what God wants us to do or not doing it right according to His specifications. We need God 's direction before embarking in any work either secular or spiritual.

In regards to how one was suppose to die if they violated the Sabbath! Ones focus should be on the love of God and in keeping with that, Jesus came and died for us such that we do not have to suffer such things. Additionally, Jesus is the fulfillment of the Law and as such, we are now justified by Him and through Him. Much like Jesus told the group of men who wanted to stone the adulterous woman, He said he did not condemn her. John 8:10 God is a God of love and as such gave His only Begotten Son to die in our place. I am personally thankful that Jesus gave me life. Jesus said Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. Mark 2:27 . In so saying, Jesus wants us to worship the Father in Spirit, not in the letter of the law. John 4:23-24. To me, everyday is the Sabbath. Blessings,

While it is true that Constantine made Sunday a Holy day, the early Church started meeting on Sunday soon after Jesus resurrected. For the record, the Sabbath was a requirement given to the Jews by God. He did not pass this along to the Gentile Nation. God said in Exodus 31:17 that it was a sign between Him and Israel forever. Secondly, scripture tells us not to judge a man in his Holy day ( Romans 14). I choose to make everyday Holy unto the Lord. Remember what Jesus said to the Pharisee's in Mark 2:27 "The Sabbath was mad for man, not man for the Sabbath". So if one chooses to worship God on Sunday, God will honor it. But I say again, worship God everyday because He and only He is deserving of our worship .

    PS.

Please note that the children of Israel were not even near being in existence when God created the Sabbath.

Folks, please note that the Sabbath is the seventh day of the week -SATURDAY and NOT Sunday. Sunday is the first day of the week and therefore not sacred. This day (Sunday) of sacredness has been put forward by the Catholic Church as a mark of their authority to act on the behalf of GOD (which is not so)and therefore false. God rested on the seventh day (Saturday) not because he was tired, but to set an example for us and reserved it as a day for us to meet and spend time with him leaving our cares for a while and rest both body and mind. Please research it in history and you will see that Constantine the emperor of Rome did this and searh the Catholic Catechisms - they don't deny it, instead they boast about it. They will tell you that all Sunday observers are just cheap Catholics etc etc etc.
Peace be to you all and GOD the Father, Jesus the Son and the Blessed Holy Spirit be with you all.

I am confused. If I go McDonalds on Sunday, does that mean the person who makes my Big Mac is going to hell ? I would feel very guilty if that is true.

Last Sunday I saw my neighbor Jim pruning some trees in his back yard. Concerned for his soul, I went over with my Bible and tried to explain that the Lord doesn't want him to work on the Sabbath and that he is at risk of being put to death. Instead of being grateful, he threw a branch at me, called me crazy and threw me off of his property. I went home and prayed for him.

    I like this part

12 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

13 Speak thou also unto the children of Israel, saying, Verily my sabbaths ye shall keep: for it [is] a sign between me and you throughout your generations; that [ye] may know that I [am] the LORD that doth sanctify you.

14 Ye shall keep the sabbath therefore; for it [is] holy unto you: every one that defileth it shall surely be put to death: for whosoever doeth [any] work therein, that soul shall be cut off from among his people.

15 Six days may work be done; but in the seventh [is] the sabbath of rest, holy to the LORD: whosoever doeth [any] work in the sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death.

16 Wherefore the children of Israel shall keep the sabbath, to observe the sabbath throughout their generations, [for] a perpetual covenant.

17 It [is] a sign between me and the children of Israel for ever: for [in] six days the LORD made heaven and earth, and on the seventh day he rested, and was refreshed.
God had set an example for his people and we ought to follow else we will be put to DEATH

It is interesting to me that, although I know that God does not sleep or become weary, Exodus 31:17 plainly says in the KJV and in many other translations that He was refreshed. This implies to me a period of "unrefreshment" or a stage of incompleteness in the Eternal God. I think in order to keep with the nature of God, the Basic English Bible and the Darby Translation render it best in reading, "He took His rest and had pleasure in it." This way, there is not the slightest implication that God needed to be refreshed, only that he took pleasure and satisfaction in inventing a day of rest, not only for Himself, but also for the benefit of people, chiefly at this time, His chosen people.
