My parents are gone ! To the best of my ability I believe that I honored my parents . Wether my or your parents were ugly and treated us shamefully : I believe that we are to honor our parents : Parents can sometimes be cruel There is possiblely something that is disturbing them that makes them the way they are. That our days may be long on this earth : honor to whom honor is due : And that includes parents !!! I believe that we as God's children that God will give us the ability to do so. Through the power of Holy Spirit.
  • Jeremiah on Exodus 20 - 8 years ago
Honor and respect your parents. Children that disrespect their parents develop a bad habit of disrespecting authority and disregarding sound advice. A child left alone is headed for destruction. As a public school teacher I see this play out constantly. You will have bad odds in life if you won't listen.

Revelation 22:14-15 Blessed are they that do his Commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. 15 For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers, and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

Using Church or Religion as a whip, to guilt an individual or group of individuals, to serve the speakers or a specific group's personal agenda, is, to me, a form of taking the Almighty's name in vain.

It means, do not kill ANYTHING... Animals OR humans... We are all struggling souls have no idea of the misery torture we inflict by eating animals... Genesis 1:29-30 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of ALL the earth, and every tree,in that which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed to you it shall be for meat 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to everything that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: And it was so...

Verse 4 clearly talks about graven images and i'm getting a picture of how God detests such with a passion. Read on its own or in conjunction with other scriptures on graven images, it cannot escape one's notice that they are expressly forbiden. God is a jealous God. So where do catholics get their authority to form graven images and shamelessly place them conspicuously in their places of worship with impunity? Definitely not the bible!

I understand it to include any image of anything in heaven, on earth and inder the earth - this includes pictures, videos, TV, YouTube, Facebook and such things.

My concern lies within Exodus 20:4 5. The Bible says: "Thou shall not make thyself any graven image, of any likeness of anything in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth." Verse 5 says, "Thou shall not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them for I the Lord is a jealous God... "I am a Core Catholic!" Then, my concern relies on whether the "Images Chaplets" and other 'Sacramentals' used by the Catholic Church Worldwide violates this particular Law since they only make use of them bow down to them in acknowledgment of God in Heaven, and not for any other god on earth or anywhere else. In fact, I have heard so many Christians of other faiths like: The Lords Chosen, RCC, Assemblies of God Church etc criticising Catholic Church and their Doctrines. Some even go a long mile condemning them aptly reckoning it as an "Occultic Church." But still, the same people, 'll take pictures, enlarged images and keep for themselves, make larges format prints and place in their Churches even at their altars without using them in God's glory. So who is doing the right thing?

There are and have always been 7 days in a week no matter their names. The week starts on sunday and ends on saturday any calendar will show you such. Therefore sunday being 1 while saturday is 7 makes it the sabath. Mondays is regarded as the first day of the work week and friday the last. Seems interesting how our world praises saturday as a day to go out clubing indulging in sex drugs and all matters of sinfull behavior, only to drive us further from god. It all just seems self explanatory.
  • Benard owiti on Exodus 20 - 8 years ago

Do the TEN COMMANDMENTS also relate themselves to the PSALMS?
  • Dewey J on Exodus 20 - 8 years ago
Carolyn, the Holy Ghost is telling me that is not the correct interpretation of that Scripture. Jehovah was warning man against making false images of himself namely. Because men are deceived very easy by Satan. They would and later did make graven images of things of heaven, earth, and the sea. God gave us technology as a gift to enjoy. I Can 't see from Scripture how one can make a graven image with a modern camera unless they take a picture of a graven image and worship the picture. Phil. 4:5 says, "Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand. God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Glory be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
  • Dewey J on Exodus 20 - 8 years ago
George Bvute, God made man to rule the world therefore, the bible was written by Holy men of God as they were moved-or- inspired by the Holy Ghost. Moses himself inspired by God through his Holy Ghost wrote the first five books of the bible. 2 Tim. says, "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Peter 1:20,21 says, "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the Scripture is of any private interpretation. V21 " For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost. God bless us all and in the understanding of his Word. Praise be to Jehovah in the highest through our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen!
  • George bvute on Exodus 20 - 8 years ago

As humans we seek fulfillment in earthly pleasures. We long for that which we do not have. When we seek perfection and find disappointment and frustration, it is because God is not number one in our life.
  • Carolyn on Exodus 20:4 - 8 years ago
My son pointed out that the verse includes likeness separately from graven image and said that it includes photographs so will no longer use a camera. I am here to research this since what he said seems true and yet I do not want to give up pictures that help me remember happy times, like being with my family.

obedience, standing comprehension of knowing the truth in trying honestly to do what God wants us to not trying to be our selves but letting go and letting God totally and completely take over your life your life situations staying in Prayer most definitely best to keep all laws of God
  • Jumin on Exodus 20:3 - 9 years ago
Nearly all translations, including the KJV, say "...no other gods before me. " Does this mean I can have other gods after him? Only one translation says "...but me. " This implies that the original Hebrew may have allowed implicit polytheism at one point in the Bible 's history. Just wondering if anyone could find a chronological comparable timeframe that negates that notion. Thank you.
  • Prescilly kaluwe on Exodus 20 - 9 years ago
When we talk of exodus 20,its a different thing,it is beyond our humanity and without the guidance of the spirit, first thing we find in this chapter God himself in a character and he is sharing his character to us the way we need live a life acceptable before him.from the time sin entered in this world the character of God became obscure simply because the devil always brings deceitful things before us.so through his everlasting love he has for us he gave his prophet the ten commandments to see through as mirror in our living to see where we have gone wrong and come back to him through asking forgiveness in repentance of our sin we have committed.the law is very important to us and we need to keep his law by accepting Jesus as our personal savior and his character will start to germinate in us..i
