Wesley's Notes for Exodus 32:1

32:1 Up, make us gods which shall go before us. They were weary of waiting for the promised land. They thought themselves detained too long at mount Sinai. They had a God that stayed with them, but they must have a God to go before them to the land flowing with milk and honey. They were weary of waiting for the return of Moses: As for this Moses, the man that brought us up out of Egypt, we know not what is become of him - Observe how slightly they speak of his person, this Moses: And how suspiciously of his delay, we know not what is become of him. And they were weary of waiting for a divine institution of religious worship among them, so they would have a worship of their own invention, probably such as they had seen among the Egyptians. They say, make us gods which shall go before us. Gods! How many would they have? Is not one sufficient? And what good would gods of their own making do them? They must have such Gods to go before them as could not go themselves farther than they were carried!

Herbert; I don't agree with the term, Dual Religions. If there is really a work of God's Spirit wrought in our hearts through faith in Jesus, and we have repented and converted according to the truth; then there will be no easy running back to the idols and uncleanness of the world but by violence against our own conscience and convictions; and then the remorse is unbearable! Israel showed none!

Exodus chapter 32 explains Israel's concept of Dual Religion .Recently at this same place they had fulley embraced the Jehovah God as he spoke to them from the fiery mountains of 🔥 fire and they had sworned to served Him for ever. But now because Moses hadn't returned at the appointed 🕙 they quickly returned to the pagan idol gods of Egypt and had the High priest Aaron to build them a idol god .

Verse 1: The Israelites were following a man and depending on Moses for their relationship with Jehovah God. They were fleshly minded and not spiritual minded.

    V. 24 - The ways of God are - unsearchable. Here Aaron flat lied about the situation , yet - God made him a priest of the Holy of Holies anyway. Just goes to show - God KNOWS our hearts.

(verse 32) Moses knew the importance of the Book of life, Jesus told His disciples that whosoever that will master must be a servant first, Moses display the quality of a good leadership by saying that God should blot his name from that book of life, and God retun back to them with mercy. Glory be to His Name Amen.

(verses 25-29) "Who is on the LORD'S side?" We have all heard the explaining away of why the Lord said; "If any one come after me and 'HATE' not his father, mother, brother, sister, etc... he cannot be my disciple;" with the watered down words like; 'LOVE LESS.' But this example with the Israelites shows perfectly, just what kind of spirits are those who receive not nor hear our words about Jesus.
