Bible Commentary for Ephesians 2:14

Wesley's Notes for Ephesians 2:14

2:14 For he is our peace - Not only as he purchased it, but as he is the very bond and centre of union. He who hath made both - Jews and gentiles, one church. The apostle describes, The conjunction of the gentiles with Israel, #Eph 2:14|,15. And, The conjunction of both with God, #Eph 2:15 |- 18. Each description is subdivided into two parts. And the former part of the one, concerning abolishing the enmity, answers the former part of the other; the latter part of the one, concerning the evangelical decrees, the latter part of the other. And hath broken down the middle wall of partition - Alluding to that wall of old, which separated the court of Israel from the court of the gentiles. Such a wall was the ceremonial law, which Christ had now taken away.

what is the difference(s) between forgiveness and remission of sin
  • Rebekah Craft - in Reply on Ephesians 2:14
One definition of the word remission is forgiveness, with another being "the cancellation of a debt". So we find the words forgiveness and remission being very related to each other, with that idea that JESUS forgives sin, and brings it into remission, making it as if it never happened.

We are indeed "washed clean" of offenses that we've committed before coming into relationship with the Lord, and of mistakes that we make afterwards when we ask Him to forgive and help us with those troubles.

Example Scripture: "For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins"

    Matthew 26:28.

wall betwin belivers and non belivers, wife and husband, children and parents, church and elders and bride and bridegroom can be removed only by the Jesus Christ.
  • Vigil on Ephesians 2:14
I think he is talking about making believers of Christ one in him. The enmity he speaks of is the one we inherited in the fall when He said there would be enmity. Between God and man. He took an polished that enmity . Those making peace. There was ever ever peace until Christ did this. Jesus made peace removing the enmity.praise God !
