Verse 27 29 "You have heard the commandment that says, 'You must not commit adultery. ' But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust has already committed adultery with her in his heart. So if your eye, even your good eye, causes you to lust, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. And if your hand, even your stronger hand, causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. " We must understand that Jesus is the way God spoke to us in the Old Testament, otherwise he would be correcting God when he says, "But I say unto you. " God does not contradict himself, nor does he allow anyone else to. The answer to this mystery is to understand that God is one God, but he has more than one way of dealing with us, or more than one personality. But Jesus is the way or the personality through whom God spoke to us in the Old Testament, and the way he speaks to us now. God 's will for us is progressive. That is, he does not reveal all his will at one time. It is a little at a tme, line upon line and precept upon precept. So Jesus as God is giving us a further revelation of what he wants us to do. Jesus further says, "You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy. ' Actually it only says 'love your neighbor. ' It was the people who added the 'hate your enemy. ' See, they thought it was alright to love only those who loved them, and to hate those you don 't like. And that 's the way most people feel today. They have a long list of people they hate. But Jesus clears this up by saying, "But I say unto you, " meaning "But I God now say unto you. " Then he goes on to say, "Love your enemies. Pray for those who persecute you. " Jesus as God was opening up the Gospel to us in a way we have not understood it before. He was showing us the full extent of God 's love. God loves us even when we do not love him. As Jesus said, this is demonstrated by the fact that God lets his sun shine oo the bad people, too. See, Jesus does not give salvation just to the people in our little circle, people we like. Salvation is available to everyone. And that 's proof of how much God love us. May God as Jesus bless you!
