You may want to investigate if there is a local "food bank" in your area. When I was going through some difficult times financially I was able to qualify for food assistance where once a week I would go to my nearest food distributor (a local church) and receive 1-2 large bags of food (rice, pasta, cans of vegetables, bread, etc.) for my family. They would also pay my electric bill once every six months. It was a real GOD-send. They may offer this in your area too (sometimes local churches will also offer such a program to lower-income persons).
