    Reading 1 Corinthians 11:17-34 (especially verse 33 and 34) will give you the full context of what it is meant by "examine yourselves". Verse 33 says "So Then brothers and sisters, when you eat, you shall all eat together. Anyone who is hungry should eat at home, so that when you meet together it will not result in judgment. The context of that portion of scripture was because they spent all day traveling to meet together in the beginning of that century (travel to Corinth). The apostle Paul heard about the divisions among them when they would bring food from home and possible eat during services.
