    When Israel took the first and put it in a basket on leaves what is the significance of the leaves?

    2 That thou shalt take of the first of all the fruit of the earth, which thou shalt bring of thy land that the LORD thy God giveth thee, and shalt put it in a basket, and shalt go unto the place which the LORD thy God shall choose to place his name there. I don't see leaves in this verse?

    The commentary of Matthew Henry for Deuteronomy 26 mentions that types of produce were separated by placing leaves between layers of first-fruits. "fruits, wheat, barley, grapes, figs, pomegranates, olives, and dates, some of each sort must be put in the same basket, with leaves between them,"
