Hi Robert. The word in Greek refers to 'begetting again or begetting into a new life'. I suppose the thought is as expressed by our Lord in John 3:1-7 in His encounter with Nicodemus & also again referred to by Peter in 1 Peter 1:23, where "born again" is used to denote that we were born once (physically) & the second time (spiritually). Thus, those who have come to Christ in faith have had two births, hence being "begotten again" (a second time).
When we receive Christ we then become of A (New Nature)
