    Who wrote Ecclesiastes?

Hi Cliff. King Solomon is generally ascribed to being the author of Ecclesiastes, though he is not mentioned by name. The following reasons can be given for it: 1:1 (son of David, king of Jerusalem); 1:16 (his unrivalled wisdom); 2:4-6 (extensive building works); 2:7-9 (unequalled wealth). These references generally point to Solomon, since no other descendant of David measured up to such criteria. Even Jewish tradition holds to him as the author. Some have stated that this book was written by an unknown author (post-exile) who used Solomon as his central character. However, no evidence has been found to support this theory.
