We read this in psalm 22 which describes his crucifixion. He says I am no more a man I am a worm. This worm that he refers to was used to dye clothes scarlet. He was so beaten for 24 hours that he was unrecognizable. This is why that had to get one Simon of Cyrene to carry his cross.
