What does feed my sheep mean?
  • Daniel - In Reply - 1 year ago
Sheep are the matured born-again who need discipling. Feed them -- teach them the Word of God and the upright life in Christ.

Lambs refer to the newly born-agan...which need to be fed moreso as they are much more easily swayed by false doctrines early on.

    John 21:15-17

"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep. He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep."

There are 3 kinds of Biblical love Jesus is defining to Peter in John 21:21-25

Eros refers to physical or sexual love. The word eros was commonly used in the Greek-speaking world of New Testament times. (We might say, sure Jesus you know I love you!)

Philos means warm affection or friendship.

Agap is the sacrificial, unconditional love of God.

Jesus was speaking of deeper truth about Love. And then he shared that some will die for the preaching of the Gospel. Google the deaths of the apostles of Jesus Christ.

The sheep of Jesus's pasture in Psalm 23 are his followers; and all those that have believed Jesus for salvation for the past 2000+ years.

Feed my sheep means, evangelize, preach, teach, pastor, plant new churches. Grow up the Body of Christ into full stature; reproducing the teachings of Jesus.

We should all get into this Bible and grow up on the Word of God ourselves, every day all year long. It takes a deep Commitment to JESUS to give our time to Him.

    Jesus said, I will Repay.

We need to be honest about which kind of love, we love Jesus With. Don't fake it. Count the Cost before you say it.

I almost died of wild reckless living. I was tired of it. Death courted me every day. One little 6 yr old kid kept me here. That little pure face of love and light.

Jesus appeared to me, like Paul sort of. I got 10 seconds to see what all of the Love in the World looks like. I've followed Him all these years.

I'm telling you HERE! Not on tv or YouTube or sell a bunch of books. Jesus is alive. He is exactly as described from Genesis to Revelation. He is the Son of God!

Stop waffeling in the middle with this. Get all in. And you're going to have to do as I did. Cram scripture in hand over fist, every single day. It forms your two-edged SWORD. We are here to be equipped. Ask God to direct your path.

John 21:16,17, Jesus said this directly to one person, Simon, Son of Jonas, called Peter. To understand more deeply, you would have to follow the scriptures that happened prior.

Please read: John 10:1-18, Psalms 100:3,

    Luke 12:22-32,

Matthew 26:31-75, Mark 14:27-72, Matthew 26:26-29, Mark 14:22-25, prophecy from Old Testament: Isaiah 53, Zechariah 13:7,

    Example of people lovingly referred to as sheep : 2Samuel 24:17, 1Chronicles 21:17, 2Chronicles 18:16, Psalms 74:1, Psalms 78:52, Psalms 79:13, Ezekiel 34:6,

    Matthew 9:26, Matthew 18:12,13, Mark 6:24, 1Peter 2:25, compassion,

    Deuteronomy 8:3,

John 6:47-69, notice in that moment "Simon Peter"'s reply: John 6:68,

    Hopefully these are helpful
