Is this catching away considered the rapture? And this is for Christian believers only.

I have been talking to a person that insists that Jesus is here on the earth now! I've tried to explain to her that when Jesus returns it will be for the Church (Christians) and that the second coming is when Jesus returns with judgment & his wrath. She also says we have to be Holy before we can enter Heaven. Meaning Holy in our earthly bodies. As we are supposed to try and be Holy and obey God's commands as long as we are in this earthly vessel it's sad to say that we still have a sinful nature. But that we can ask Jesus to forgive us when we truly repent. How do I get through to her that there's no way we could be Holy without the shed blood of Jesus. She is of Chinese desert and she teaches an online fellowship. She's very mixed up in her beliefs.

    Barbara,

I found a good explanation of "holy" on the site "Got Questions"

What does it mean that God is holy? and also an article you can click on at the bottom of this article mentioned that speaks about how believers are called to be holy. I recommend reading it.

    Barbara,

If I may share something with you on the word holy. First, I would like to say that there's some truth to what this person is saying. If you remember years ago, a bracelet they were selling with the letters WWJD on it? It stood for What Would Jesus Do. At first I thought that would be something "cool" to wear. I mean, what would Jesus do if He were in my situation? But since then, I found out the entire message read "What would Jesus do if He were here." Well, now that WWJD message does not sit right with me. Why? Because He is here. I know He's not here physically, but He's here in the form of His Spirit, and He lives in me.

The word holy, the word saint, the word sanctify, and the word sanctification all come from the same Greek word (HAGIOS). The word HAGIOS means to be set apart. As believers who have been born of God's Spirit, we are holy, or set apart. But please know that being holy has nothing to do with our human performance. Many see the word holy and think it's something we must strive to be, and they put forth a lot of effort to become holy, or "Christlike." and they work hard at it. But being holy simply means that we have been set apart for God's purposes.

We who have received Christ have been sanctified (HAGIOS/set apart), we are saints by calling (HAGIOS/set apart), and we are holy (HAGIOS/set apart). Again, being holy has nothing to do with human performance. It is God's Spirit in us that has made us holy, and it is God's Spirit in us that God will see one day when we stand before Him.

That may be why this person is saying we must be holy to enter into heaven, not because of anything we've done, but because the Spirit that lives in us, He is holy. God makes us holy by giving us His Spirit, setting us apart from the world, and using us for His glory

Without knowing what this person truly believes, I cannot say one way or another that I can fully agree or disagree. I just wanted to share my thoughts on the word holy.

    God Bless!!!

I'd like to add, if your friend is talking about Jesus being somewhere literally "to go out to see him" Jesus warned the Disciples & us 'not to believe it & not to go' please read Jesus' Words: Matthew 24:4-51, note Matthew 24:4,5,11, Matthew 24:23-27, again in: Mark 13:5-37, note: Mark 13:5-6, Mark 13:21-27,

Other than that, Adam & "Old Man Wilson" gave good scripture.

I guess o didn't explain what I meant well enough. Yes literally she thinks bodily that Jesus is already on this earth and that we have to be totally Holy in our carnel bodies if we are to be able to enter Heaven.

    Sister Barbara:

    Is she mixed up:

Colossians 1:27 ...this mystery ..... CHRIST IN YOU ....

Christ CAME THE SECOND TIME at pentecost; in SPIRIT, as the Holy Ghost.

Hebrews 9:28 So, Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many (first coming, as flesh), and unto them that look for him (as a thief in the night) he shall appear the SECOND TIME (unseen like a thief, as the Holy Ghost) without SIN UNTO SALVATION.

Philippians 2:13 For it is GOD (the life of the body) that WORKETH in you (his body) both TO WILL and TO DO his good pleasure.

Revelation 20:6 Blesses and HOLY (Christ in you) is he (the body of Christ) that hath part in the FIRST RESURRECTION ..

John 11:25 ....I am THE RESURRECTION, and the LIFE, he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall HE LIVE.

    CHRIST IN YOU.

1 John 2:27 The anointing (THE LIFE) in you ....... will teach you ALL THINGS .......

Colossians 3:3 For ye are DEAD, and your LIFE is HID with Christ in God.

Christ blood COVERS our sins, to REPENT means to change your way of thinking, or your beliefs.

It takes lots of studying God's word and lots of repenting in the way, and things, we believe.

    God Bless you.

KJV uses "caught up" in 1 Thessalonians 4:17. I'm not familiar with catching away- what verse do you see that term?
  • Barbara Gale Miller - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 4 - 1 year ago
Well it says to be caught up, I used the term the catching away. And this is referring to the rapture, correct?
  • Adam - In Reply on 1 Thessalonians 4 - 1 year ago
Yes, many refer to this event of Jesus followers being caught up in the air to meet Jesus as being a rapture.

Some believe its the same event as Matthew 24:39-44, but verse 39 likens it to the flood in which the unbelievers were taken away. Either way, we should be ready.

    Dear Adam

A more precise translation from the greek would be "grabbed".
