  • Anthony Smith on Hebrews 6:6 - 10 years ago
This scripture states there is an impossibility: for those who were once enlightened, who have tasted of the heavenly gift, and who were made partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the age to come, IF THEY SHALL FALL AWAY, to renew them again unto repentance, seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh and put him to an open shame. They heard the gospel, but did not really hear. They tasted but did not eat, they learned of God's future, but did not believe it, they partook of what the Holy Spirit offered but did not accept. These Hebrews who would or could go back to worshipping under the old covenant were showing their inferior faith. Hebrews states over and over that Jesus is better than the angels, Moses, sacrifices, etc. To be able to go back to false worship indicates they were never really believers. Jesus said, "My sheep hear my voice, and another they will not follow."
