Say a person, believes that Jesus died and rose again, but is also trusting their keeping of the law to get them in heaven. Can they still go to heaven on believing that Jesus died and rose again, even though they trusting what they can do also?

James 2:17-20 Even so faith, IF It Hath Not Works, Is Dead, Being Alone. A man may say, Thou Hast Faith, And I Have works, :

Shew me Thy Faith Without Thy Works, And I will Shew thee my faith BY My Works.

Thou believest that there is One God, Thou Doest Well: The Devil's also believe, And Tremble.

But Wilt Thou Not Know, O vain man, That Faith Without Works Is Dead?

DEAD Faith Will Not Get Anyone Into Heaven.

    Jesus Says in John 15:14

Ye Are My Friends IF YE DO

    Whatsoever I Command You.

NO Enemies Of Jesus Will Be Able To Enter Into The Kingdom of Heaven.

Believing In Jesus MEANS Believing EVERY-THING He Says.

Well this is hard to answer.

As far as Mose's law is concerned please read in the book of Acts when apostle Paul went to Jerusalem, before being imprisoned there, what apostle James said to him: ( Acts 21:17-20)

v17-And when we were come to Jerusalem, the brethren received us gladly.

v18-And the day following Paul went in with us unto James; and all the elders were present.

v19-And when he had saluted them, he declared particularly what things God had wrought among the Gentiles by his ministry.

v20-And when they heard it, they glorified the Lord, and said unto him, Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law:

Pay attention to "Thou seest, brother, how many thousands of Jews there are which believe; and they are all zealous of the law." What this shows? I don't think those Jews were not saved. Now whether this is true only for Jews and not for gentiles, I can not answer.

Now if you want to ask what happens in churches that preach that salvation must be accompanied by good works to get saved, my opinion is that as long as people there are reborn again and get baptised (the two necessary conditions for salvation) no matter what else they practise they still get saved (since they do those for God - Romans 14:6-10). God does not held one account for what one does not know but for what one chooses to do against His will. And some more. In my life I have met christians from those churches that surprise me with the good works they do and have met christians from reborn churches that have no interest at all in doing any good thing to help others. God wants us to become good Samaritans. And lets not forget that in the final judgement that is described in Matthew 25:31-45 people will not be sent to hell according to their faith but according to their works, not for what they had done, but for what they had NOT done.

    Gob Bless you.

You must have your name recorded in the Lambs Book of Life. Period. Revelation 22.

Nobody likes half-way commitments. Do you?

Unfortunately that applies to the deceived as well .

They are very hard for even God to reach because they are sure they got it right . Or are too proud or what ever , the list is long on reasons for being deceived.

The spirit of anti christ is prevalent and few even know it exists.

The cannot understand that Jesus is the Son of God .

Oh no he got to be more or less than that . Because they just don't get it . Billy Graham was well deceived did you know that ? I doubt you did or have the understanding to see it .

    David Earl Taylor,

The answer to that would be no. Belief alone does not save a person. A person must act upon that belief and surrender their life to Christ. There has to be a Spiritual birth that takes place.

In John 3:3, Jesus tells Nicodemus that, "Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God." Nicodemus was a Pharisee and they were the strictest of the religious sect of the Jews. They kept the law to the letter. However, that will not get them into heaven.

So Jesus tells Nicodemus, "Except a man, (a person), be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

The word "again" in the Greek text is literally the word above. It is not PALIN, which is the word for again. It is the word ANOTHEN, which means "from above." So He is saying that if a person is not born from above, he is not able to see the Kingdom of God. What a thing to say to the Jewish leader who just gave you a complement in Verse 2!

You see, the Lord sees right past that and gets right to the heart of the issue. And basically He's telling Nicodemus, you are a leader of the Jews and you are recognizing who I am, but let me tell you something. You are a leader of the Jews and you are lost. You are not going to heaven the way you are right now. Every person must experience a spiritual birth from heaven, that is, the source of it is from heaven, not from man, and not from man's belief. It's a spiritual birth!

So, to answer your question, "Can they still go to heaven on believing that Jesus died and rose again, even though they trusting what they can do also?" I would say that the finished work of Christ is sufficient, apart from trusting in what we can do also. We cannot add anything to what Jesus Christ did for us. A person must surrender their life to Christ. They must be born from above. Apart from that, no one will enter into heaven.

    That's right brother Jesse

The Greek text says " born from above", that is from God's Spirit .

    Galatians 2:16 -

Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

    Galatians 3:

But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith

We cannot be saved BY the keeping of the law. Our obeying God's Word is the fruit of the indwelling of the Spirit BECAUSE we are saved. We must rest our whole foot of faith on Jesus, Who is the only One Who kept the entire law for our sake, that His righteousness might be imputed to us. Amen! Praise the Lord!

    Blessings!

I believe this depends whether or not they truly receive the Grace of Jesus by Faith (Salvation). The moment Jesus Christ died on the Cross, He fulfilled the law and Grace by His Blood became the only means of Salvation. When I was catholic growing up I believed that Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the grave...but I wasn't saved. The catholic church set aside a myriad of works and I didn't even know the basic means of Salvation. If you know someone like this, share with them the GOOD news...we know longer have to live under the works of the law for Salvation:

    Ephesians 2:8-10

"For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

"By Grace are ye saved through Faith and that not of yourselves" (works of the law or works by any other means of religion) and concluding "not of works, lest any man should boast."

    Amen!

Amen, Daniel, there is an outreach to be made to Catholics as well as "nominal believers" in many denominations. These people are not outside of the reach of the work of the Holy Spirit should we reiterate the Gospel to them again and again until the work of the Holy Spirit is completed in them.

I know many Catholics who believed as you did. I just keep telling them the fullness of the Gospel as often as opportunity arises and pray for the Holy Spirit to bring His work in them to completion.

I also know Catholics who truly have embraced the Gospel and become born again as a Catholic. Some have remained in the Catholic church and others have been called out of it. God leaves a witness!

The best I can say is that anyone from any denomination can be saved. However, I feel the reason it's so difficult is that the more years you live in a religious denomination (which usually teaches a substitutionary message of salvation). When I was catholic, they said your salvation was through water baptism as a baby. The difficult part was going through "sacraments (not found anywhere biblically)" and by the time I'd hit confirmation; my heart was hardened to religion. Many groups preached to me over years because I was passionately religious...but I did know the meaning of a single verse of the Bible toward salvation nor did I believe the bible was God's word. Many years later (October 3rd, 2010 to be exact), I'd been playing organ for a non-denominational ministry and heard the words straight from the KJV Bible on Salvation from Romans 10:9-13. It kept me up until 2 in the morning and I realized in the same night: 1. I was a sinner , 2. I was never saved and 3. I received Christ as my Savior to be baptized in His Blood. I've studied numerous denominations since getting saved. It seems that many have a varying definition of Salvation. I know that if you're born again, you'll seek after a fellowship with those who are also born again but you feel called. I tried preaching but it wasn't my calling. Music ministry has always been the way and I know there's no religion (Islam, Catholic, Mormon, Adventist, Calvinist, Jehovah's Witness, etc)...I know some from every religion who've been saved.

Good bless you sister. What a great story that to have a testimony. Many lost need to hear and thank you for having mercy. If all catholics were condemned...then I never would have been saved. Let's not condemn but show them the truth of the Gospel with love as it is in the Holy KJV Bible.

    Daniel,

Could you explain what you mean by a substitionary message of salvation.
