How did Adam know about a father and a mother? See Chap. 2:24

2+2=4 they were spiritually still connected to God, was it even Adam saying it or just a commentary or statement by the Holy Ghost who wrote God's word.

    1 Corinthians 13:12

"For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known."

Some day we will know everything but now we only know part of the full account. If you knew, how will it change anything as to being saved or add anything to salvation? Faith is believing God

This what the Commentary on this website has written. Mishael

    Wesley's Notes for Genesis 2:24

The sabbath and marriage were two ordinances instituted in innocency, the former for the preservation of the church, the latter for the preservation of mankind. It appears by Matthew 19:4,5, that it was God himself who said here, a man must leave all his relations to cleave to his wife; but whether he spake it by Moses or by Adam who spake, Genesis 2:23 is uncertain: It should seem they are the words of Adam__ in God's name, laying down this law to all his posterity. The virtue of a divine ordinance, and the bonds of it, are stronger even than those of nature.

See how necessary it is that children should take their parents consent with them in their marriage; and how unjust they are to their parents, as well as undutiful, if they marry without it; for they rob them of their right to them, and interest in them, and alienate it to another fraudulently and unnaturally.

Hello Lyle. I've always understood this verse in Genesis 2:24, "Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh", as not spoken by Adam, but by the author, under inspiration of the Holy Spirit, after what Adam had previously stated in verse 23.

So, it appears that Moses (as generally attributed to be the main author of Genesis), had deduced that from Adam's words 'that this woman has come out of (made from) me & now one flesh', that in marriages after Adam & Eve's creation, the unity of husband & wife are also seen in similar manner: that before God, they are one, though two distinct beings with their own personalities, special functions, & inclinations. This unity was to be indissoluble except by death. And Jesus also quoted Moses in this matter: Matthew 19:3-6. And so the question that was raised by the Pharisees, 'if this is so, why did Moses allow for a writing of divorcement?' And Jesus went on further to explain this special concession given to a demanding Israel was never in God's Plan for marriage & the union of two people.
