What did it mean when said these things are hidden from them

Rick you are right in that. I am glad you could lose the weight. I lost 20 pounds last year. Still have more to go, but it is hard when I cannot do as much activity as I would like. May be having foot surgery soon as my right foot is going the way of my left foot did 20 years ago. Lots of pain after walking just a short distance. There is some anomaly in the structure that needs to be fixed. So, I have cut out most stupid stuff. Trying to eat more protein. I enjoy vegetables and fruits, but my gut doesn't like a lot of meat on it. So, try to eat nuts, cheeses, and whey protein shakes to up the protein I get each day. I do eat meat every day, but in small portions, as tolerated. Thanks for the advise. I appreciate it. I was just an itty bitty thing for so many years, up until my mid forties-maybe 100 pounds wet, but as the years went by, I started gaining little by little until it became unhealthy for me. I 've been trying to lose weight since then, I lose some and then gain back a little more than I lost. Trying to find the right approach to get back to my itty bitty self again.

Hoping after my foot heals from surgery, I can get back to walking regularly like I did a few years ago before it began hurting. Sure wish I had a therapy pool installed at my house. I have done water therapy and it is really great! So, perhaps we will need to invest in some type of exercise spa. I think that may be the best for me since it doesn't have the impact that out of water exercise does. So I guess I need to start praying for God to supply the funds for this. We have been thinking about it for a few years.

Rick, I quoted John 20:22. So I will stick with that, as the Holy Spirit indwells believers, as the disciples were at that time.

There is no where in Scripture that says that regeneration only happened after Pentecost. But John 20:22 does indicate it. As in Genesis, God spoke and it came to be at the speaking of His word. So it is in John 20:22. He gave the Holy Spirit to His disciples when He spoke and breathed. Just as in Genesis when God breathed into Adam, Jesus breathed the

Spirit into the disciples, I believe.

There is nothing to say that they received the Spirit at a later date. In Acts chapter 1, Jesus said that they will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon them, but it does not say they did not already have the Spirit in them nor did it say that they would be saved by the Spirit coming upon them. Don't you think that Jesus would have said that they became believers or saved if that is what happened when the Spirit came upon them? It would seem that that would be an important thing to distinguish since He told the apostles to make disciples and baptize them.

Anyway, you asked me a question and I have answered even though it seems you have moved on from your recent post to me.

Gigi I've decided to not go here anymore because a whats the profit and not everyone chooses to get into

language meanings which can enhance understanding, even the term every jot and tittle has a remarkable

meaning in eastern culture. So what you believe is your privilege and vise versa, plus the idea is each one win

one and this wins none so onward to the bema. God Bless

    Hi Rick

    Understood

Thank you for conversing with me. I find it helpful.
  • Rick Mentzer - In Reply - 2 years ago
Gigi My heart in my communication is only for greater understanding what a person chooses to believe or

not believe is based on a lot of background info whether proven or not. Myself I had absolutely no type

of denomination background at all but I spent literally when i was younger a full year of just going to work 8 hrs.

and studying the scripture all the rest of the time I had no contact with the outside world period. Then I

went out and watched others and listened. Either it lined up or not, I do have research material but again if it

doesn't fit with all scripture I drop it.

Just a bit of heart what started my quest to give anyone possibly a laugh I was at a friends house and

we were smoking something not good I was a hippie, then we flipped through the t.v. channels and the end of

the greatest story ever told came on and I watched this guy going up in clouds and say lo I am with you always

even till the ends of the age. My initial attention getter because I knew mankind the way he was headed was

going to be toast and where was I going to wind up. So went home found my moms bible read the book of

revelation first and went into complete and absolute shock not knowing about being born again and forgiveness

just understanding my butts going to be eternal toast. I didn't eat or sleep for three days, then by Gods grace

got into the gospels and read about this Guy who Loved healed and raised the dead and gave his life

paid so you would be saved. Read Romans 10:9+10 absolutely believed it and that was the start. Lost girl

friend all immediate so called friends and began my new life in Him and never looked back. Eventually SIT

and signs miracles and wonders followed. Also I fellowship with others either in person or by phone hookup

its a bit challenging for me to travel I deal with spinal stenosis not fun. So Gigi there's some of my heart,

I can come across sometimes short or too brief due to my challenged body.

    Rick

    Thanks for the bio.

I have osteoarthritis in my lumbar region and had to quit work because of spasming that pit me on the floor. Not good for a kinder teacher!

So I have been home for the past 16 months using my recliner often to take the compression of my spine.

I've had some good improvement, so I am glad to not be getting the spasms as o once did. So, I hear you.

I know that there is much we agree on and we have the same Lord and Same Spirit to bring us to the Father.

We can present our viewpoints on this forum and some will agree with us and some will

not. I think you and I recognize that and can be loving and harmonious even when we differ from each other.

Do,again thanks for letting me know more about you. God calls us from all different situations to Be united in Christ. He decided this and has cause us to have this contact.

I consider it and you a blessing .

Gigi A little off subject matter I'll be quick severe pain ice is your friend for 20 minutes then switch to

heating pad. Heating pad will become your friend because our problem slows down blood flow and heat

stimulates circulating and eases pain. Last except for sleeping try not to sit down or be still too long

because that's detrimental. Now the fun part we need healed because there is no cure for arthritis, that

    being shared God Bless.
  • Gigi again - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Thanks Rick

All those things I do. Try to be up and about as much as I can because movement of the spine is beneficial.

When it gets sore, I do as you've suggested.

Being off work has been so helpful as I can really do self care. Been dealing with this for about 8 years. But now I believe the inflammation has diminished markedly, so I can do more without the spasms and constant pain.

But yes, arthritis is not curable or reversible unless the Lord heals, which I pray for. I am thankful for the improvement I have had since being home. I thought when I quit work that I would become more and more disabled. But at this point, I'm in a better place than then. So, Praise be to our Lord and King!

Thank you for sharing. I hope your condition improves also.

    God's blessings to you today.

Gigi Now I'm only saying this because when I first was informed what I had the best advice by Gods grace

came from a woman at physical therapy who told me to loose weight. I ask why not being severely large but

every pound overweight adds seven lbs. to spine, I lost 50 lbs. in ten months lots of water and veggies! Not

saying it applies just stating something that's a variable with what we deal with. Also found out most physicians

really have no clue what can be affected, so its been challenging to sort out. Thank Father He put me in the

right direction when needed. Its one day at a time, in that regard nothing changed headed for the bema!

Gigi In Genesis it doesn't say God breathed in spirit, show me the verse where it says exactly that.
  • Gigi - In Reply - 2 years ago
    Rick

I was referring to Genesis 2:7 and the Lord God formed man if the dust of the ground , and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being.

I did not post that God breathed the Spirit into man.

I was referring to the action of God breathing something into man, the breath of life in Genesis, and the Spirit of Life into the apostles in John. God's actions and words are powerful and effective and accomplish His purpose every time
  • Rick Mentzer - In Reply - 2 years ago
Gigi Breath life equals= soul life which when a person takes their first breath that's the start of soul life which

biblically has an end when man takes his last breath but spirit life is eternal. The word breath there is nishma[for

breathing but in other places the word for breath[is ruach which can mean breath air wind or spirit] depending

on context. So all this depends on the context of usage of words, not making this up just being honest and not

at all argumentative just part of research.

Johnny They had no spiritual understanding of what he was communicating until they were born again

at pentecost, which is also why basically being around Him was almost always and behold! Wake up and

observe the power of God on display I.E. you have seen me have seen the work of the Father!
  • The Day of Pentecost and Following - In Reply on Luke 18 - 2 years ago
Y'all need a music video break :D. Jesus loves us lots.

Jesus knew that on the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit would fill the Disciples with the in-dwelling of the Holy Spirit. They would have to get used to hearing Jesus, through their born again spirits. :D

There's a song I like that gets all the blood pulsing: by Katrina and the Waves, "Walking on Sunshine". But I'm thinking, SONshine.as in Jesus! I think it could be a Sunday praise song that would fully wake up Everyone!! [ switch out baby baby TO Lord Lord Lord]

The Disciples were mourning; tripping into doubts, messed up. Then Jesus pops in and says HI YALL, why the long faces?

They went from flatline to " the sky's the limit", in a heartbeat (well except Thomas) :/

Let's work on that. They saw Jesus and from that day forward, they heard Jesus.

If we are not hearing Him loud and clear, it may take some humbling, sitting silently in the prayer closet and turn up the volumn on your listening.

I went through a couple of years of not hearing anything! I was so spoiled that I did not know what to do to make Him talk to me! What happened is I conquered doubts, loneliness, my life of betrayals I had suffered, broken dreams of how my life had imploded, and more. I was delivered from stuff I had long thought buried.

The Divine Romance was restored. I am His, and He is Mine. Song of Solomon. He belongs to all of us.

Thank u "The Day of Pentecost and Following". It was refreshing to hear Katrina & The Waves - Walking On Sunshine (Official Video) :D.

1 Thessalonians Chapter 1:Paul, and Silvanus, and Timotheus, unto the church of the Thessalonians in God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ:

2 Grace unto you, and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

    3 We are bound to thank God always for you, brethren, as it is meet, because that your faith groweth exceedingly, and the charity of every one of you all toward each other aboundeth;

4 So that we ourselves glory in you in the churches of God for your patience and faith in all your persecutions and tribulations that ye endure:

5 Which is a manifest token of the righteous judgment of God, that ye may be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which ye also suffer:

    6 Seeing it is a righteous thing with God to recompense tribulation to them that trouble you;

7 And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels,

8 In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ:

    9 Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;

10 When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.

11 Wherefore also we pray always for you, that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfil all the good pleasure of his goodness, and the work of faith with power:

12 That the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and ye in him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.

I hand over the Word as it also says what has been enlightened to me, I am only a living proof of God's great Grace. And need so much much more, as darkness eats up the lights of people we love.

The Word Is Psalm 119:105 Jesus Kristus

    Hi there,

Good post. I was just reading in the gospels about the time between the resurrection and the ascension. Jesus made sure that the disciples had all of the instruction they needed to begin the ministry He was calling them to do when He returned to heaven. I noticed that, even though Thomas doubted the reports from his disciple friends, he believed when he met Jesus again alive. He said, "My Lord and My God." Now that is the exclamation of a believer! So glad that was recorded. Jesus meets us in our doubts and weakness and gives us what is needed, as He did for Thomas. He loved him.

You cannot possibly say you know what the apostles knew and understood before Pentecost. The Scripture said that Jesus expounded the Scriptures fro Mosrs on to that present time, teaching them and equipping them to be ready to preach the gospel when the Spirit empowered them at Pentecost.

I just don't think we are in a place to evaluate what the apostles knew and understood.

    Only Jesus knew that.

These men were by far heads above most of us, having walked with Jesus for three years and having met with Him repeatedly between the resurrection and Ascension. I don't think Jesus was ineffective in His teaching nor without the power to effect understanding in th before Pentecost. These men went on to be martyred. We've got nothing on them, in my opinion
  • Rick Mentzer - In Reply on Luke 18 - 2 years ago
Gigi I never stated what you responded to, 1 Corinthians states the natural man mane receiveth not the

things of the spirit of God neither can he know them. The bible says they didn't understand until pentecost

spiritually, that's why Jesus christ said to Peter Flesh and Blood has not revealed who I am to you.

    Rick

I was responding to what you said in your post. "They had no spiritual understanding of what he was communicating until they were born again at Pentecost." The text does not say that they were born again at Pentecost. They were believers before Pentecost and were gathered together as Jesus instructed, praying and praising God. In John 20:22J, Jesus breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit." The Holy Spirit does not indwell un-regenerated people.

I believe that what Jesus spoke happened at that moment. What happened at Pentecost was another work of the Holy Spirit that happens after conversion.

You and others have repeatedly spoken that salvation comes when one confesses with one's mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. I am pretty sure that the disciples had done this as a result of their experience with the risen Lord before He ascended. The Scripture nowhere says that an experience such as at Pentecost is the means of salvation. It is what God brings to already regenerated persons

So, for me, I believe that Jesus gave the disciples the teaching and understanding they needed to believe the gospel and take the gospel to the world prior to His ascension. The power to perform miracles, speak in tongues, and to be courageous in the face of opposition and persecution came at Pentecost. That is my point in responding to what you pointed about these disciples. You spoke as if you knew for sure that they were unsaved prior to Pentecost because, I believe as you seem to imply that that experience is the means of salvation rather than that in Romans 10, that you have often cited as the means of salvation.

Therefore, I understand what you said about the natural and spiritual man. You assumed that the disciples were not reborn and therefore had not a spiritual man in them. I contend that they did. I think Jesus was more than able to accomplish all that was needed in is disciples before He ascension. God Bless.

Gigi My understanding in John 20:22+23 he was explaining for the future, in John 16:7 he says the

Comforter, the spirit to come after as he says he is Glorified, and that occurred when he Sat at Gods Right

Hand and completed His ministry on Earth. It was not available to receive permanently gift of Holy Spirit

until pentecost and to be received we confess out saviour from sin and from the heart Romans 10:9+10

and believe in your heart. It's your privilege to believe what you will. Moving onward to the bema!
