What useful purpose was served by letting the Demons posses the Swine and cause them to commit suicide? The poor pigs weren't hurting anyone and the swine herd suffered a financial loss through no fault of his own-and even in Old Testament times, non-Jews were not commanded to refrain from eating pork. This was one of the special strictures that only applied to God's chosen ones.
Hi Robert, I would like to share a couple things with you.
Number one, about Gadara:
Gadara was the center of pagan and demonic worship in that region. In fact, history tells us that Gadara was the most active place on the planet, the inhabitable world, as they knew it back then, for demonic activity and worship.
Guess what they sacrificed in demonic worship? Pigs! These were not ordinary pigs. These pigs were raised to be used for pagan worship. They were all black pigs.
So if you ever want to know what these pigs were doing out there, now you know why. So they came to the Gadarenes. Here is something that is also important to know. It is illegal for the Jews to have this herd in the back pasture where they couldn't be found. The pigs are unclean and they can't touch pigs.
So it is interesting how the Lord flushed out an illegal business. And because of that, they didn't want him around.
All of Gods dietary rules were for our protection. The didn't have refrigeration.
Certainly in that scene, The Lord is showing us up close and personal, that demons can get inside of humans, pigs, to do their demonic work against the HUMANS. They were inside the man and they were able to move into the pigs. Jesus was showing us that reality. They are outlaw spirits. They do not have permission to get inside anyone.
People yield themselves. They give anger free rule, next it invites a murder spirit to enter too. You watch porn, and later you are doing things you Know are sinful. Take a stand against it.
Satan or Demons, principalities, powers ARE NOT HUMAN. Ephesians 6. We have armor for that: the Word of God in our mouth.
But we must stand on the Authority of Jesus Christ and take Dominion over the demons. We have to be exercised in the kind of "fruit" they leave laying around: fear, sickness, depression, unreasonable anger, haughtiness, etc. The part of the crowd that screamed for Jesus to be crucified was demonic. Satan didn't want his head to be stomped. Genesis 3:15
When I want to obey the posted speed limit, people act crazy. I help them go around as I pray for them. Sometimes they have fish magnets on their bumpers. :/

Yes I feel compassion for the swine. So I'm assuming that we are worth more than many swine in the Lords eyes.
Hi Grace Isn't it amazing how Jesus Christ heals a man that you know they knew and when they saw him he was in his right mind and clothed, where did he get the clothing? But the people like you shared weren't concerned at all about miracle or ask questions basically got angry and ask Jesus to Leave. No humility or meekness or curiosity, I would probably have been shocked but I think I would have asked how did you do that. I believe in our day and time if God would work like that which he does most people wouldn't believe it, so to me nothing has changed.
I've puzzled over this too . Those pigs shouldn't even have been in the land of Israel . Maybe they represented the unclean Romans ? Or all Gentiles ? Or the way in which there will not be any unclean thing in Israel in the future ? I'm sure there is also some symbolism there as well as an actual herd of pigs . Maybe one day one of us will get it , if it's you please come on here and let me know .
Sister Sacha, it says in verse 5 Jesus was in Capernaum, but in verse 28, it says Jesus was in the country of Gergesenes, I think this was probably a gentile country, that why there was swine in the country.
