This chapter is referred to as the Table of Nations, as it shows the genealogy of Noah through his three sons, by whom all of the nations were "seeded". They were not yet scattered al over the earth if this chapter is chronologically before Chapter 11. But Chapter 11 will precipitate the dispersal of these peoples farther apart outside of the Mesopotamia area.

This genealogy also shows the lineage of Shem - Peleg at which time the nations were scattered at Babel, or, another theory is this is the time that the one major continent broke apart and began to separate into two hemispheres. Both could have happened at this time. Whether the drift of the continents was slow or rapid, perhaps the answer lies with geologists. I happen to think that it was slow and that facilitated to habitation of all of all areas of the earth. I don't think it was fast and abrupt. The major geological and climatic events of a rapid division would have been noteworthy and I believe it would have been recorded in the Bible.

Thank you for taking the time to read my posts. They are wordy, but I hope they are helpful to others as I write my "musings" through Genesis, perhaps bringing something fresh to the discussion. God bless you.
