What does it mean in first Timothy second chapter verse 12 does it mean a woman should not preach or what does that mean
  • Chris - In Reply - 2 years ago
Yes Jewell. That is exactly what 1 Timothy 2:12 is saying. The Apostle Paul in other letters spoke about the order of creation, just as he referred to here in verse 13. In 1 Corinthians 11:2,3,8,9 and Ephesians 5:23, Paul gives those details again to the Corinthian & Ephesian Churches.

The reason for giving this order, was not that Paul had something against women or of their abilities in teaching & using their other gifts & talents, but that within Church worship, before God & His angels, the prescribed order of ministry must be observed. And this he instructed young Timothy, who was left in charge of the ministry in Ephesus & generally in Asia Minor. As capable as women may be in teaching, within the Church, the task of administering, leading & teaching from the Word was incumbent upon the brothers. Elders who were ordained in every Church ( Acts 14:23) were men & they also had been enabled by God to teach & lead the flock of God.

Dear friend in Jesus Christ. I'll have to put something in anyway, and ask why you dont fill all the script in your reference in

1 Corinthians 11:11-16 Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord.

12For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God.

13Judge in yourselves: is it comely that a woman pray unto God uncovered?

14Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him?

15But if a woman have long hair, it is a glory to her: for her hair is given her for a covering.

16But if any man seem to be contentious, we have no such custom, neither the churches of God.

This is alsow a spiritually picture of a Man and Wife, like King and Queen, like Jesus and His Bride.

God bless us all in Jesus Name

Thank you for your reply, Free. I intentionally left out the portion that you quoted, since it didn't apply to the creation order that I was dealing with, in response to Jewell.

The Scripture you gave speaks about the mutual dependence that both man & woman have with each other, by God's appointment. Lest man assumes an air of superiority over the woman, the instruction here is, 'Not so, as both are dependent on each other & the woman should never feel inferior in this Divine Order'. And so this instruction is in the light of a woman's head covering when in prayer or giving prophecy. But when it comes to Church leadership & teaching, the responsibility rests with the man & not the woman (without the man overlording his position over women). Let us not allow modern societal ideas & strides towards man-devised equality, to affect biblical standards for personal & corporate conduct.
