Our pastor said this piece of scripture is not part of the original texts and believes it is not written by John

Can you shed some light on this ? This makes for a pretty unsettling mindset for one such as myself who has grown up in church all my life - 48 years- and I've never heard this

    Hello Julia

Don't believe your pastor when he says this, Quite simple if it's written in the bible it's God's word, and we should believe scripture before man. Jesus tells us that we are to believe as a child, and as in 2 Peter and 2 Timothy, the bible is written by holy men through the inspiration of God,

    I hope this helps

Matthew 18:3 "And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."

2 Timothy 3:16-17 "All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:" "That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works."

2 Peter 1:20-21 "Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation." "For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost."

This is going to sound harsh and I'm not judging your Pastor. I've attended a lot of churches.

Pastors, Teachers and others have opinions about the relevance of some passages.

This is why God wants us to study in the Bible, what we are being Taught From The Pulpit. Note their scripture references and read them later at home.

Come back in here and learn how to use THE SEARCH BOX. Put your verse in it. When it appears, touch the verse and it turns yellow.

Scroll downward and there is the COMMENTARY BOX. Open and read what Matthew Henry write about it.

You'll know the truth and Truth sets us free.

It doesn't mean anything more than one person having an opinion. You will know the truth.

We have many lively and heated discussions in here. We read, consider, comment back or agree peacefully to disagree. Doesn't have anything to do with the validity of Scripture. Gods Bible (Word) is always 100% TRUTH. I've changed my opinions many times by things Jesse or Chris have shown me.

It's all good interaction. It's really good you are searching things out. It's a mark of maturity. It is evidence of The Holy Spirit that inside of you, teaching the Word of God to you. He teaches us, tells us what Jesus is like, tells us when we are in the ditch, how to get out; when we sin and when we do good.

    I love being a Christian!

God bless your precious soul and direct your steps all of your life. Listen to the still small voice.

I get up in the Morning and . Say GOOD MORNING HOLY SPIRIT!! what are we doing today I get my coffee and we sit and wait for the birds to cut loose singing praises to God. Life is Good.

    Dear Julia,

Don't believe everything you hear, especially if it attempts to discredit the Bible, God, or Jesus. This is a spiritual battle and even well-meaning Christians aren't immune to being deceived. If you dig or talk to enough people, you can find criticism for everything, but the real question is: is it true? The burden of proof falls onto the one making the claim.

You said it's unsettling, but it's not unsettling to me, because I know 100% that what you heard is false. The Bible we have is already from the original texts. The KJV is a translation of the original texts and a very accurate one. Satan has attempted to discredit and cause doubt in believers since the beginning of time.

    God bless...
