Genesis 3:19 In the sweat of thy (Your) face shalt (should) thou eat bread, till thou (You) return unto (to) the ground; for out of it wast (was) thou taken (taken): for dust thou (you) art (be or are), and unto (to) dust shalt thou return. (Dust you should/shall Return)
So the Dead returns to Dust. But again Jesus will judge the Dead. And resurrect the Dead. Back to their original human self. Back here on earth. John 5:28,29; 2 Peter 3:13; Revelation 21:3-5
Once you've passed away in this here flesh body , it's done never to be flesh again , you return to your spiritual body, one that doesn't grow old , never gets sick , it's perfect,.. an in that spiritual body you will go forward with forever
