Question: In 1 Peter 1-21, who specifically is "God" that raised Christ? Is it a.) the Father, or b.) the Holy Spirit, or c.) Christ himself, or d.) some combination of the Trinity?

God bless you and all on this site.

    Thanks you for the clarification.

Kevin: "who specifically is 'God' that raised Christ?"

    RESURRECTION By The Triune GODHEAD!:

    (1) The LORD JESUS Raised HIMSELF From the dead!: "JESUS Answered And Said Unto them, Destroy This Temple, and in three days I Will Raise It Up!...But HE Spake Of The Temple Of HIS BODY!" ( John 2:19, John 2:21 cp John 10:17-18) +

    (2) God, The Father Raised HIS SON From the dead!: "Whom God Hath Raised Up, Having Loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that He should be holden of it!" ( Acts 2:24 cp Acts 2:32, Acts 3:15, Acts 3:26, Acts 10:40, Acts 13:30, Acts 13:34, Acts 17:31; Romans 4:24, Romans 6:4, Romans 8:11; Ephesians 1:20; 1 Corinthians 6:14; 2 Corinthians 4:14; Hebrews 13:20; 1 Peter 1:21) +

    (3) The Holy Spirit Raised The LORD JESUS CHRIST From the dead!: "But if The Spirit Of HIM That Raised Up JESUS From the dead Dwell in you, He That raised up CHRIST from the dead Shall Also Quicken your mortal bodies By HIS Spirit That Dwelleth In you." ( Romans 8:11 cp Acts 2:24, Acts 2:32; 1 Peter 3:18)

    Kevin,

We know that in John 2:19, Jesus said destroy this temple (speaking of His body) and I will raise it up. So Jesus said He would raise His own body from the grave.

It is interesting, because we read that right before Jesus died, He dismissed His Spirit. His body was laid in the tomb, but we also read that during those three days while His body laid in the grave, He went into the lower parts of the earth, to a place called Hades, and He released the Old Testament saints. So His Spirit was separate from His body.

I believe that after that took place, Jesus then raised His physical body from the grave, as He said He would do. I believe Jesus had the power to raise Himself. We know He has resurrection power, as we read in the account of Him raising Lazarus from the grave.

I also believe that Jesus is God. He is God the Son. I believe also in God the Father, and God the Holy Spirit. All three, co-equal, and co-eternal, and all three being one God.

Responding to you mentioning Hades and releasing the saints.

    Luke 16:23

"And in Hell he lift up his eyes, (Note not hades) being in torments,"

Many counterfeits refuse to translate the Greek word "haides". Rather than translate "haides" to the word "hell", the counterfeit will transliterate the Greek word "haides" into the English "hades". By this trick the counterfeit attempts to extinguish the flames of hell. Hades is not "hell". Hell is flames, torments, weeping and wailing, complete darkness - forever. Hades is a new-age place of purification, or a fantasy place in Greek mythology. The Assyrian Hades is an abode of blessedness with silver skies called Happy Fields.

Then you also mentioned that Jesus went to release the other saints but the Bible says he went to minister to the lost souls.

    1 Peter 3: 18-22

During the 3 day's before his resurrection.

Christ descended to HELL to Preach to the lost souls in hell who rejected Christ in the day's of Noah.

The generation before and during Noahs time never had the Bible or scrolls of the Laws of God only the very rich and elect few had knowledge of the old time law's.

Because Christ said all will have a chance to repent and to get to now him personally.

    Romans 14:11

For it is written, "As I live, says the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God."

    Romans 10:14

How then will they call on Him (Jesus Christ) in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in Him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching?

    Deon,

Thanks for the response. I completely agree with you that Hades is not Hell. I also agree with your description of Hell. I used the word Hades because that's the word the Greek text uses. The word Hell in Luke 16:23 is the word Hades in the Greek text. There is actually only one place in the Bible that is actually Hell and that's the lake of fire in the book of Revelation, the final destination. In fact, Hades will be emptied out into the lake of fire. The word Hades means the place of unseen spirits. No physical body, just spirits.

Prior to the death of Christ on the cross, when a person died they went to a place called Hades. For the ones who will eventually be sent to Hell, they were on one side, and the saints waiting for the Messiah to come for their salvation were on the other. Scripture tells us that there was a great gulf fixed between the two compartments of Hades. No one could ever cross over from one side to the other. Today, there is only one compartment to Hades and it is full of those who are waiting for the final judgment, and they will then be cast into the lake of fire. There is no hope of salvation for them. Those who die rejecting Jesus Christ will no longer have a chance at salvation after death. Ephesians Chapter 4 tells us that when Jesus died that for three days and three nights He was in the heart of the earth. He was down setting the prisoners free. He was down in Hades on the side where the saints were with Abraham.

As a matter of fact, in Matthew Chapter 27 it tells us that when Jesus rose from the dead, many of the Old Testament saints were seen walking through the streets of Jerusalem because He the raised them up. He went down there and preached to them (the OT saints), and told them that their salvation has been purchased for them and they will now be with Him in paradise. These were the saints that were with Abraham.

I'm out of space here. Would you like me to address the second part, along with the verses you sent?

Kevin It is the Father God who raised Christ.

    Hi Kevin.

Great question, We have the verse you mentioned.

    God

1 Peter 1:21. Who by him do believe in God, that raised him up from the dead, and gave him glory; that your faith and hope might be in God.

    Holyspirit.

Romans 8:11. But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by his Spirit that dwelleth in you.

    Jesus.

John 10:17-18. Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.

No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

    God bless.

Kevin In the context of 1 Peter starting at verse 19 But with the precious blood of Christ as of a lamb without blemish and without spot verse 20 Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world but was manifest [brought into physical evidence] in these last times for you. This is talking about Jesus Christ, 21 Who by him Jesus Christ do believe in God that raised Him Jesus christ from the dead and gave him Jesus Christ glory that your faith and hope might be in God. In His Service
