Human beings are very funny. They don't think that they should suffer. They will do anything to avoid suffering. They do not want to admit that suffering exists. Jesus Christ on the other hand, was the Son of God. He did not see suffering in the same way as we do, thank God! Jesus taught us: It is not IF you will suffer, but WHEN. St Peter picks up the same thread as St Paul does in Philippians: I want to know Christ and the power of His resurrection by participation in His sufferings, becoming like him in his death. A person who has not suffered in his body can never really understand this. Until you HAVE suffered in your body you will continue to run away from suffering. God has a way of teaching us, though. No matter who you are or what you believe in, some day your body will give up on you, and then you will turn to God your maker, and He will be waiting to teach you HIS laws.
