question in chapter 1corinthian 1-17 what does it mean lest the cross should be made none effect

1 Corinthians 1:17: "For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect."

The Apostle Paul was writing to the believers in Corinth, Greece, a country whose citizens thrived on & promoted eloquent flowery speech in their discourses. What Paul was reminding the believers here, was that he doesn't use such words to convey the Gospel as that would unnecessarily detract from the true worth & simplicity of it. The message of the Cross was both simple yet profound. That it's beauty lay in making a true & full declaration of its basic message and then allow the Holy Spirit to apply it in His Own way to the hearts of the hearers. So if Paul took the path of other speakers with flowery language & convincing arguments, he says that the message of the Cross would be rendered vain or ineffectual, being lost in the midst of such a delivery & of no spiritual use to his audience.
