1. Is Apostle Peter the Rocks

2. Who is the Rock and please give me two references of the Scriptures

"And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it." Mat 16:17-18

Simon had just declared his belief that Jesus was "The Christ, the Son of the living God."

Jesus replied to him him saying, "That thou art Peter [Petras, a stone], and upon this rock [Petra, a rock] I will build my church."

Peter was named Simon, son of Jona. Jesus was making a play on the word Petra by giving him a nickname. Peter is a little rock. Jesus is a Foundation ROCK. The church is built on Jesus.

Later "Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The STONE which the builders rejected, the same is become the HEAD of the CORNER: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?" Mat 21:42

After Jesus ascended, Peter asserted, "Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a CHIEF CORNER STONE, elect, precious: and he that believeth on Him shall not be confounded." 1Pe 2:6

Hi Skip ,ive always thought that in this instance the rock is simon peters confession 'thou art the Christ ,the Son of the living God ' .
