Where does one start over again who has fallen away from the will of God?

The simple answer to your question is repentance and prayer, knowing that only through faith in the Cross and all that it means, do we receive God's grace and mercy. I've been there and done that many times over the years, we've all fallen at one time or another, this is because of our human nature (sin) but I also believe that the Holy Spirit is there through our conscience to comfort us, and convict us when we've gone astray (that guilty feeling) and direct us back to the cross (the narrow road). If somehow we hurt one of our friends and realize our mistake we ask for forgiveness, and if we're genuine in our apology, our true friends will forgive us realizing that we all make mistakes. Throughout the bible we find man falling away from God, as David did with Bathsheba, another man's wife, 2 Samuel 11:3, or Manasseh in 2 Kings 21:14 - 21:17, but through repentance and prayer they again came to know God and all His mercies, and Paul who first persecuted the church became one of the greatest apostles for the church.

Throughout the NT you will read of Jesus teaching starting with Matthew Chapter 5-7, this is the start of Jesus ministry, the Beatitudes and sermon on the mount.

Matthew 5:3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

Matthew 7:7 "Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:"

For the person who has never come to Christ for salvation, or the one who has drifted away from enjoying the Presence & Plan of God for them, the only place to be found is at the foot of the Cross.

If you sense that your faith is lukewarm, your life's path has gone off course or the ministry of God's Spirit is all but absent leaving you destitute of joy, assurance & hope, then you need to come back to the Lord. He ever calls - He ever waits for His children to realize how far they have strayed & how close He is to receive them back. Remember the prodigal son story? How the son's father longed for & waited for his son's return ( Luke 15:11-24). What joy the father had to receive his son back as one from the dead. Likewise, God (& all of Heaven) awaits & rejoices when a sinner or one who has strayed away comes back into the fold of Christ.

Talk freely, openly from your heart to God about where you have failed him. Confess to Him (through the Sacrifice of His Son Jesus) that you have come to a point of total hopelessness & grief for leaving God & you're so sorry to have done this & failed Him. He does hear & understands all you've been through & His Spirit has brought you to this point of realization & confession. "Him (or, her) that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out" is Jesus' Promise for you ( John 6:37). And also "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." ( 1 John 1:9). These are the sure promises from God's Word that He will receive all who come in humility & sincerity before Him.

After you confess all before God, His Spirit will minister to you, maybe at that instance or in the moments ahead. You will have the joy of sins forgiven & being accepted. You will want to spend more time talking with your Heavenly Father & reading from His Word to learn more of Him & of what He wants from your life. Feed on that "Living Bread" Jesus Christ - give Him first place in everything you do.
