Heb. 5:8 "the things which HE suffered" = Verse seven provides the answer as to what CHRIST "suffered". Translated from the Greek verb root (pronounced "PAS-kho"), the word "suffered" speaks of CHRIST experiencing and enduring physical and mental pain, hardship, and need. The English language derives the noun "passion" from the Greek verb "pascho".

While John 11:35 records the only occurrence of JESUS CHRIST shedding tears as HE wept at Lazarus' grave, Luke 22:44 records HIS Gethsemane "agony" so severe that "HIS sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling down to the ground."

So the expression here in Hebrews (5:7), "with strong crying and tears" bears out the fact of CHRIST's "strong" emotional outbursts in Gethsemane before HE "suffered" death.

Here, the Greek word translated "strong" speaks of an emotional upheaval so intense that the sufferer is unable to resist its eruption into gut-wrenching weeping and sobbing.

Such was the manner of JESUS CHRIST's "prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto HIM".

CHRIST's "suffering", and because HIS Heavenly FATHER was "able to save HIM from death", qualifies CHRIST as the believer's singular and sole "HIGH PRIEST" ( Heb. 5:5) in the realm of Salvation.
