Exodus 6:2,3, "And God spake unto Moses, and said unto him, I am the LORD: And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by my name JEHOVAH was I not known to them."

Jehovah, or Yahweh (YHWH) is the Hebrew word for the LORD GOD. It's meaning is: "the active self existent One". However, since YHWH cannot be correctly pronounced by the Jews, they refrain from speaking out God's Name lest they find themselves in serious error before God. Even in their writing in English, usually God is written as, G_d, for a similar reason.

As well, we have 'compound' Names for Yahweh: e.g. Yahweh-Yireh (The LORD Who provides); Yahweh-Ropheka (The LORD Who heals); etc. However, in English we just use the generic name, God, or Lord God & in the KJV, when Yahweh is referred to, the words are capitalized to indicate this. I don't believe we err in any way, by referring to our Great God & Saviour as simply 'God': He is unconcerned by which Name we prefer to use (& different languages will have their own words to refer to God), rather that we reverence Him & get to know Him for Who He is, for what He has done & what He will do in the future.
