How and where did Peter die?

We understand the the apostle Peter died by martyrdom during Emperor's Nero's reign & persecution of Christians. This was approx 67 or 68 AD. His death was also confirmation to what Jesus had told him in John 21:18, 19:

"Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not. This spake he, signifying by what death he should glorify God. And when he had spoken this, he saith unto him, Follow me." And, 2 Peter 1:14, where Peter himself spoke of his upcoming death: "Knowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ hath shewed me."

We are not told how Peter died, though tradition says that he was crucified like His Saviour, but elected to be hung upside down so as not to resemble Jesus' crucifixion. An early Church father & theologian, Origen, said: "Peter felt himself to be unworthy to be put to death in the same manner as his Master". However, there is no certainty on the manner of his death. And the place of his martyrdom is also said to be in Rome, where the apostle Paul was also martyred by beheading.
